Dogs, Chickens and Kids…oh my!
Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

Yesterday’s winner, by random number generator, is…Sara Ulfers!

Nothing exciting going on in my life or my mind at the moment. The past few days have been spent taking care of sick little ones. Had to take the 5-year-old to the doctor because she had 104 degree fever and flu symptoms. The test was nonconclusive, but still, she’s on Tamiflu. The little one didn’t like being left out of the coddling so she developed a slight fever, not nearly as concerning. Anyway, the worst is past. Got one on the schoolbus this morning, and the light at the end of the tunnel is that I get to go home tomorrow. Then maybe I can think about writing.

It’s raining again. This has to be the wettest year EVER. Since I have to walk dogs, big damn dogs, I’m not too happy. Oh and did I mention the chickens? Yeah, the red-headed hellion, who always hated living in the country, has chickens!! And since she’s under the weather too, I have to coax the buzzards into the pen and feed them. I’m just glad no one I knows is here with a camera. Earth mommy, I am not. I’m whining again, aren’t I? Better stop now before I go into full whine mode. I hope you are all healthy and happy, and that the flu bug passes blissfully by you and yours!

It sounds like you are whine-entitled. Hopefully, you will stay healthy.

Maybe you can have a chicken dinner when you get home to make up for having to care for them.

Lisa! You’re bad!! I wouldn’t even wince if it was one particular rooster who loves my painted toes.

Oh I LIKE the chicken dinner idea! Years ago we lived out in the country and neighbords had MANY chickens and turkeys. Talk about no brains… They thought they were getting hens for the eggs and ended up most of them were males. LOL I gladly accepted their invitation to shoot them when they got into our garden. Love that double barrel shot gun, worked just fine shooting from my hip so didn’t bruise my shoulder. Stay healthy!

How do you come to the conclusion that you want chickens to take care of? Not something I would ever think of getting that’s for sure.

Ronda! My daughter couldn’t shoot her birds. Every one of the 13 has a name.

Brandy! My daughter loves animals—5 dogs, 2 cats, a goldfish and now 13 chickens. She says its because she wanted fresh eggs, but they haven’t laid a thing in months. And yet, she keeps feeding them anyway.

Fedora! Thanks. I’m home today, recuperating! Tomorrow night I’ll head back over there. Thank goodness her hubby will be back on Tuesday and can pick up the slack.
