Hurts like a b@$ch!
Monday, July 19th, 2010

I’m getting a late start today. The weekend was a blast, but sooooo draining. I’ll talk about the barge trip later this week, once I steal photos from Facebook from one of the guys’ pages. For now, I’ll share yesterday’s adventure.

The red-headed hellion and I drove to Little Rock yesterday to a tattoo convention. We made appointments ahead of time with my SIL’s tattoo artist who’s from Des Moines, Joshua Bowers. Kel was getting her 5th. I was adding my 2nd tat. Most of hers are in hidden places, but this time we both wanted something on our wrists. I guess I must be an exhibitionist because I don’t have any hidden tats. I have one on my foot, and since I wear flip-flops everywhere, it’s out there.

Anyway, we got there early before most folks attending had crawled out of bed. Josh was easy to find and very, very nice. K took pics while he was doing mine. I like this one because it looks like he has magic hands (which he does). [Note how tightly I’m gripping that bench?!]

As you can see from K’s face, she’s reached that mythical endorphin high some folks get when they enjoy the process. Or maybe she’s still too dead from Saturday’s long adventure. Either way, she’s going to kill me for this photo!

I have never experienced that high. It freaking hurt! Ever had a surgeon cut into your skin without benefit of anesthesia? Well, me neither, but it can’t be much worse. Once my arm heals, I’ll take pics of the tatoo. Right now, the skin in still puffy and reddened. But I have a pretty bracelet I never have to take off.

After the convention, we hit Petsmart so I could get a tag made for my rescue dog, Fenris. He’s coming home from training school this week and I don’t want him outside without my telephone number around his neck. But while we were drooling over all the lovely animals, I found this one very agitated, very beautiful betta. Since he had such an nasty attitude, I had to bring him home. He survived the night in his new bowl. I had a blue betta up until he finally passed last year, and I missed Mr. Fish. This lovely fella reminded me of the sea serpents in my Viking book, so I’m calling him Drago.

This is too great. I took my 18 year old daughter to get her first this weekend and yes, she was one of those that loved the process. Scary thought. I on the other hand would have probably cried like a baby. She got all the guts in the family. Before anyone scowls on me attending her first tatooing, she did have placed in a hidden location. We felt that it was a fair compromise and I went for moral support. Enjoy the inking ladies.

I have a couple of tattoos and it depends on what kind of mood I’m in if they show or not. Both of them are on my chest above each breast each one is a wolf one of the it’s howling at the moon and the other one is a wolf face that looks like it’s in fog or clouds. Sometimes I wish I didn’t have any and others times I want more. The first tattoo didn’t hurt at all but the second one hurt so bad and after I couldn’t stand anything to touch it even my bra. I think the man who did the second one made it hurt some because my friend and I were trying to talk another friend into getting one and we told her they didn’t hurt and he told us to quit lying to her. I think it hurt so bad because he did the outline first without any ink just using the needle then he filled the outline and the tattoo in. I would not give him the satisfaction of knowing that it hurt. He also stopped in the middle of the tattoo and had a smoke and you know if they stop and then start again it hurts a lot more. Even though it hurt I still love it.

Can’t wait to see the tat Delilah. I ended up with 2 of them too. I have one on each shoulder. I got both of mine done at 7th street in LR.

I want to add to the 1st one that is the small butterfly. Hubs hasn’t threatened to divorce me yet but he did ask me if I was done after I got my 2nd one.

    I was 40 when I got the 1st one.

    Hi DD 🙂

The tatoo looks great so far and am sure it’ll get better when the puffiness is gone. As for the fish, he is adorable and I think a viking name suits him fine.

I never got any tatoos. Every time I decide to do it one of my friends discourages me. But I’m thinking its time….

I’m a tattoo loving whore. There’s no way around it. Just got my one done about 2 1/2 months ago. Giant butterfly on my arm above the kids’ names and flower. It’ll end up being one big tattoo by the time I’m done with this arm. Going for a sleeve.

I have a few others too. Dragon on the right arm. flowers and heart on upper left back which needs to be re-done are fixed and then on my lower right side of my back I have my tiger. Which I love and adore and wish I had put somewhere I could gaze upon it whenever I left.

Can’t wait to see your tat all healed up.

Rachel! Mother-daughter bonding at the extreme! But no tattoo for you? I love that every time I look at mine, I’ll remember sharing the experience with K.

Valerie! It’s like childbirth. After it’s over, you forget that it felt like a knife carving into your skin.

Sherry! Whoa! I think I would have had to hit him. If my daughter had been with me, she would have taken him apart too. 😆

Heather! I’ve seen some lovely tattoos come out of 7th Street. We’ll have to compare the next time we meet!

Aimee! Thanks. Althugh he’s not as peppy as when I first got him. Wonder if I’ve already killed him. 🙁

Rasha! You can put one somewhere no one but the one you sleep with will see. Be wild, but in private!

Brandy! I’d love to see the tiger. Does T have any? Or is he waiting until he’s out of the service?

T has more than me I think. I did buy him his first one. I’m romantic like that. lol

He has oriental writing on his leg and arm. No clue what it says really. Initials on his back. German for airborne on his stomach and he’s working on a sleeve on his left arm. Though he’s working his way up while I’m working my way down.

I’ll see if I have a picture of my tiger. I love him. He’s my inner beast or at least I like to think so.

Can;t wait to see the new tatt.

Also, is it just me or does the tattoo artist look a bit like Quentin Tarantino in the second pic?

Sasha! You’re right. He looks like he could be Tarantino’s little brother!
