Bad Moon Rising’s next installment…(Hint: Contest!)
Saturday, December 4th, 2010

Again, I need you to help me figure out what happens next in my ongoing free series, Cat Tails. You remember. My intrepid erotica writer DiDi Devereaux came to a sleepy little town in the Louisiana Bayou to check out the house her eccentric aunt left her. Along the way, she wrecked her car, met the town’s sexy sheriff and the bad boy, had a sexy threesome with them both while she was under the influence of the sheriff’s sexy “mark”—and now she’s settling into her new home and liking the sheriff more and more.

However, there’s a mystery in the town. One the sheriff’s determined to keep her from discovering. The full moon is rising, and along with it, “The Prowl” is about to begin.

So my first question is: What exactly happens during The Prowl?

I have a hazy idea of what happens in the next chapter, but need you to help me flesh it out. Remember, this is your story, so you have to tell me what happens next.

I think the elders will ambush Mason. He’s taken a vow to stay clear of the The Prowl to ensure the community’s continued safety, which means he should have stayed clear of lovely DiDi. But he’s already in too deep to back away now.

So next question: Why would Mason make a vow like that in the first place? Is there something in his past he feels he must atone for?

In the meantime, DiDi’s back at her aunt’s place, but she’s curious about the rest of the property. She hadn’t realized the dock existed that extends over the river where she and Mason last had sex. Now, she finds a little flat-bottomed boat and decides to head across the river/bayou to see what’s on the other side. I think this will be key to what The Prowl is all about.

So last question is: What does she find across the river?

This is a brainstorming process, so there’s no such thing as a stupid idea. And you can build on someone else’s suggestion. I’m not going to offer the prize to the person who gives me the idea I like best. I will simply draw a name at random among everyone who posts an idea.

What’s the prize? How about a $25 gift certificate from Amazon.com? When will I close this contest down? How about on Thursday? That will give you all plenty of time to think and play.

And as I’ve done every step along the way, I won’t be making the decision of which ideas work best. I will select three or four answers to each question then run a poll for you to choose. We’ve only just begun the fun!

Come on, y’all! You’ve been very vocal before! Mason vs. Bobby, etc.! All you have to do is offer a suggestion for one of those questions…

I think she finds a necklace with a cat symbol on it in the earth under a tree that had belonged to her aunt who had lost it many years before.

Hmmm…a magical amulet. What might it do for her?

Cat skeletons… Is it maybe something to do with a voodoo curse on the clan? How did they come to be shifters in the first place?

HaHa! More questions! But you’re both entered! Thanks!

Maybe “The Prowl” is when the shifters all become-or forced to I guess, their bodies cant help it-cats for a night and seek out their true mate.
Mason might have to steer clear because he is supposed to be a protector and make sure that no one gets hurt during this whole thing.

Ashley! I like it! But if they’re forced to shift, how do they get with their mates? Do y’all really want to see full on cat-human sex?

I think “The Prowl” is when all of the shifters are forced into their animal form and literally prowl the streets looking for something to eat – not sex but a food type situation where humans are not safe.

I think that Mason would have taken this vow as a way to show how much control he has.

I think that DiDi finds unmarked graves.

Maria! Zounds! It takes a darker twist! So maybe they’ll end up hunting her, forcing her to the field or island (I like the idea of an island) and he’ll have to save her…

As the elders have already given her to Bobby, maybe she has to be claimed/marked on that night or end up food. Which causes a problem for Mason. And that takes us back to his issue. Why doesn’t he want a mate or can’t have a mate? We know he’ll have to crumble at the end, but why doesn’t he simply get it over with?

I like the idea of finding some kind of necklace. I haven’t read any of this but it sounds great and these ideas are awesome. I’m not sure I wanna see Kitty on human sex-I like cats and all but…I think it would be cool to go dark for a bit. I’m on for going to the dark side as long as we come out on the other side 🙂

I think the prowl is where they meet their mates and she finds something that belongs to her mate, that will let her know who her mate is for the prowl.

Ok…So here is my take on The Prowl: I say its when other shifter clans come in and bring new blood to the Bayou. I remember one of the elders saying something about DiDi possibly being new blood. I see females of other clans and a night of seriously hot sex…for the continuation of the race.

Since Mason isnt as aggressive as shifting as Bobby was when they were mating with DiDi I say his human side tends to be more prominent and he avoids the Prowl because he is actually waiting for his mate. So he is fighting an inner turmoil bc his woman is now caught up in it all.

OH OH …and what if….Mason was involved in a Prowl and a woman he was with died…what if she was part human and he was too caught up in the Prowl and accidently harmed her unexpectedly in his passion?

Ok…accross the lake…hmmmmm….Sacred ground that holds the key to their futures? I like the idea of something like a Talisman (necklace) but where and how would she find it?
OOOOORRR what if this is the place that somehow exposes DiDi’s ancestery. showing that she and her female relatives are the answer to what the town needs?

Holy crap…can we answer more than once…Im sure my muses will misbehave tonight and Ill think about this in my sleep! 😉

I don’t think her aunt is dead. I think she is actually the leader of the panthers. I also think that Mason fell in love with her before she ever arrived & unbeknownst to Mason & the others except for Bobby who is jealous of Mason’s relationship with the aunt and he decides he wants DiDi. At the prowl DiDi is given the choice to bring out her latent panther & choose her mate/

I think the Prowl is when Didi has to mate with her true mate in front of all of the elders and other shifters.
Mason chose to be out of the running because he had a mate before and she didn’t survive the prowl or maybe she decide that another man was her true mate.
She finds the bodies of other human women that didn’t survive the change or she found the diary of a woman that was chosen as a mate. It tells everything that she saw and went through before the mating ceremony.
I’m not very good at this so I hope this helps some.

I really like the Talisman (necklace) being found and and the unmarked graves.
The diary that is found could give clues to the curse and how to reverse it. Or it could give clues to the human mates make it through the change. Or all could be tied together with the clues given in the diary!
Mason took the vow because he lost his mate during the change and doesn’t want to go through it again but a future mates calling is too strong to resist unbeknownst to him!

Wendy, you can post as many answers as come to you!! You’re doing great!

Janie! Ooooh! Now there’s a twist. Although, i’ve already said that the aunt was human. So she couldn’t be shifter. Have to think of something else there.

Sherry! If he had a mate during a previous prowl and she was killed, that would definitely make it so he didn’t want DiDi anywhere near it, but have to figure out a way he could keep her safe and have all that sexy excitement if she does get caught up in it. Someone has to “mark” her and draw her into it.

Desi! A talisman, maybe lying atop the grave marker of Mason’s ex. Someone leaves it there for her. But what does the talisman do?

Ok I haven’t read the story lately, but what I have read I liked really liked. Since the elders gave her to Bobby I would have to say that the prowl is more about mating then eating but, if a human is within the clans boundrys they will become fair game, either marked and mated and perhaps turned or turned into food. I think the prowl is a time where members of the clan look to mate and if a human is again caught in the boundries they may be hunted or caught in the web so to speak like Didi was and be mated, human males by the female shifters and females by the males shifters. I think Didi is fated to be mated with both Mason and Bobby who just don’t really care for each other but do care for Didi. I think Didi could find something over on the other side of the river that puts her in danger and Mason and Booby will agree to work together in order to protect Didi and I agree some sort of Panter talisman would work well with some VooDoo thrown in.

Opps forgot a part about why Mason takes a vow to protect and serve.
I like the idea that he was heartbroken by his own human mate that he tried to take when he was very young dying after she started breeding with his child.

The Prowl to me is the giant free for all celebration/remembrance. Shifting, not shifting. Other clans can come in and celebrate as well. Its when they find mates, remember the shifters and protectors of past. Voodoo rituals, food, bonfires. Sorta like a Day of the Dead and Mardi Gras all rolled into one.

Mason took a vow because he’s the Sheriff. The ultimate protector of the clan. He can’t have the distraction The Prowl brings. He isn’t intended to find his mate. I do like the idea that he thought he’d found his mate when he was young, before becoming Sheriff, and it not working out. So he thinks in order to be this great protector and judge for the clan he vows to stay away and not become clouded in emotions the celebration brings.

What DiDi finds on the island is the tale of the shifters. How they came into being. Grave stones, an alter, and gris-gris for the Elders to perform the ritual that created them and ensure another year of protection given by their Voodoo Queen. The Prowl is for everyone to show their appreciation. The island is for the private power filled real ceremony.

In regards to a talisman it could speak to DiDi. Show that she is a human protector, like her Aunt. She could have the blood of the clan deep in her veins and its her choice to become shifter or not. Then there would be a ritual she would have to go through if she picks to become a shifter. Having a true mate would bring about a better chance of success. She would need the right connection, to Mason or Bobby or both.

The Elders know there is something special about her because of her Aunt and their bloodline but they just don’t realize the extent of it. They know Bobby would be good for her since he was good friends with her Aunt. The pull for DiDi and Mason is so much stronger though. The power that runs through DiDi can only be harnessed by the two men together. The each provide a stabilizing force.

Ok I just read the chapter I missed #4 and I’ll stand by what I said although I think Bobbi will not become a permanent fixture in thier lives, but he’ll be neccessary at times. I think if Mason and Didi mated, Mason would still be able to protect the clan.

I think Mason might have tried to mate a human at the prowl and it turned out wrong thus he afraid the same thing will happen all over again But if she a latent her cat will come out at the prowl when her true mate claims her. Mason might not be sure he’s her true mate. Might know she’s his but not vice versa.

Delilah, I know you said that the aunt was human, but what if she hid it from everyone through maybe some voodoo and they only knew her as their leader or leader’s mate in panther form?

I, also, like the idea that was brought up about her needing both Bobby & Mason to complete the change during the prowl.

Brandy! I like the idea of the talisman speaking to her… Have to think how to weave that in… So she wants only Mason, but needs both Bobby and Mason. something Mason will HATE. More conflict….

Zina, what I was thinking too. If the talisman calls to her, and if she meets someone in town, the voodoo priestess maybe, who thinks DiDi might do as her successor… That might work.

Pam, DiDi with latent cat? Only if she discovers that she’s really her aunt’s child and that her aunt mated with a cat! Oooh!

Janie! I think it’s entirely possible that DiDi’s gonna find something in the house that casts some light on what her aunt really was…

Was on this mating trip you all worked out myself –
so what if Mason thinks he already found his mate (which can’t be true as we all know), but the girl left him to find a better life, maybe as an actress. She was human and didn’t know anything about his true nature …
Because he thinks he lost his mate, he’s taken this vow to stay away from The Prowl.

I think The Prowl is a ceremony that bonds mates to each other and to the secret of the panthers. The bond is done through marking and an exchange of blood. This takes place on the island which is sacred ground.

Didi stumbles upon this sacred place when she goes across the river. She finds the alter for the ceremony and on the alter is the talisman (left for her to find). She recognizes the talisman as a symbol that is found in her aunt’s paintings. When she’s in town she also sees the symbol worn by the voodoo priestess and decides to question her.
