Drama and a Giveaway!

Thanks so much for having me, Delilah! Hi everyone 🙂 I’m Gillian Archer and I’m guest blogging here because my first story with Carina Press releases today.

Unlike my heroine in Wicked Weekend, I don’t have any sibling angst. Don’t get me wrong, my sister and I used to fight like cats and dogs…when we were little. My mom always says she knew we were really going at it when all the yelling and bickering would stop and it suddenly got quiet in our room—that was when she would yell down the hall to “knock it off in there!” Probably had a bit to do with our two year age difference. But we grew out of it somewhere around middle school.

Now as adults, my sister and I are completely different people. She’s an analytical hippy chick who is getting her PhD in Radiochemistry (of all things) and practically worships Bob Marley. Whereas I love everything George Strait and used to be a mining engineer (weird, I know!) but now spend my days writing steamy romance scenes. There’s so much we don’t agree about, but my week is not complete unless I talk to my sis at least once. What can I say? I love her 🙂

And yet I absolutely cannot get enough of family/sibling angst. Whether it’s in books or on television, I’m glued to the drama. The latest reality family spectacle that I can’t get enough of is American Chopper: Senior vs. Junior. My husband watches for the bike builds but I’m glued to the angst. The lawsuits and nasty comments about their own family members break my heart. Will they ever be able to mend fences and be a family again? How can anyone move past the kind of history that these guys have? These are the kinda questions that fuel my writing muse.

So when it came to writing my heroine, I just had to give her some family angst. There’s a history between the sisters that’s apparent from the first page, and they have a few run-ins along the way as well as the prerequisite sibling jealousy. Of course when she meets a hawt guy and has some naughty fun with him she realizes she has no reason to be jealous of her sister. It’s so much better being her. *grin*

Why did Lauren Vaughn introduce her sister to the man she herself was crazy about? Now Lauren is watching the happy couple at their combined bachelor/bachelorette party—while Lauren sits all alone at the bar. Until she spots a hot stranger with the telltale black handkerchief in his pocket: the signal for “seeks no-strings affair with sexy submissive.” Lauren can’t take her eyes off him. So when he comes over, she kicks her inner good girl to the curb and follows Jamie Forman to his room, where he makes her scream with pleasure all night long.

But Jamie is a complicated man. He can’t handle how desperately he wants her in his bed—and his life. It’s up to Lauren to teach him how to make all night last forever.

You can read more about Wicked Weekend at my website, or buy it today from Carina or other book selling sites like Amazon or B&N!

So do you have some sibling angst? Or a favorite book or tv show dealing with family angst? Leave me a comment and you’ll have a chance to win a book from my backlist.

Thanks for having me Delilah!

    I loved Wicked Weekend and would love to find a sexy dom flagging me after being stuck at a family function. I am the youngest of 3 girls so angst is putting it mildly. No one ever approved of my boy choices and it always seemed like a competition. I gave up on that and went withmy heart which made me the black sheep of the family. I can easily identify with Lauren and would love to know what happens next. Please tell me there will be a follow up!

    Honestly, I have no sibling angst. More like, sibling indifference. They stay in their corner, WAY over there…I stay where ever I darn well please. It’s how I keep from killing them all. Seriously.

    On to the book. It sounds SO good! I’d be up for winning something!

    I am the middle Child and the mediator between the both of them. I have to keep them from killing each other if they spend too much time together. I would love to read the book.

    Congrats on the book release, Gillian! The story sounds like a “wicked” read 🙂

    Sibling angst…mm.. Being the eldest child in my family…the pressure to do the “right” thing and “give up” stuffs for my younger sisters…Grrr…is enough to drive me batty. But then I usually escape into books, where my sisters don’t read all that much… and that keeps me barely sane enough 🙂

    Sibling angst… well, the first thing that springs to my mind is Downton Abbey, which along with hordes of other people, I’m completely obsessed with.

    I’m with another commenter. Sibling indifference is the best way of putting it. I sometimes say to my husband that I wish I had a sister. He’s always like, um, you do. Of course, I mean I want a sister with whom I can be close!

    Having a brother there was sibling stuff growing up but I think it’s different when you are the same gender at least it seemed that way to me. Guess I’ll find out as I watch my girls go through the teen years. LOL

    Great post, Gillian. Loved Wicked Weekend, can’t wait for the next one.

    No sibling angst. As one boyfriend put it, “I’ve never seen three sister so damn close in my life!”

    @Rachel- Thanks so much! I’m actually working on the sequel now and it’s starring a certain rope top from book1. And of course Lauren & Jamie will be making a guest appearance 🙂

    @angel- I have a similar relationship with my brother. We were so close growing up but now….not so much.

    @Denise- I’m a middle child too! I spent many an afternoon trying to keep them from killing each other LOL

    @Ju- Thanks! I had to share everything w/ my sister too 😕 And she was extra grabby 😛

    @Anna- I’m going to have to check out Downtown Abbey. I’ve heard sooooo many ppl talking about it!

    @Lauren- Thanks! And no pressure right? 😆

    @Maggie- Wow. I’ve always heard about that kinda relationship but I sorta thought it was an urban legend 😆

    PS I’ll announce a winner at 9pm PST!

    I’ve read this one and I kinda wanted to drown her sister in pudding. My sister and I are super close now — though there was about a 3-4 yr span where we couldn’t stand each other — live within 20 minutes of each other and talk on the phone at least twice a week. We fuel each other’s crazy so you’re guaranteed to get a laugh hanging with the two of us.

    @bn100- Oooh! I haven’t seen that one. But I’m a huge Buffy fan 🙂

    @Voirey- Thanks!

    @Hailey- Me too 🙂

    @Sasha- Two Devlins in the same place kinda makes me dizzy. I don’t know if the world can handle that much crazy in one place 😛
