Checking in from lakeside
Thursday, May 28th, 2009

I’m housesitting on Lake Catherine for my friend Cyndi. I arrived yesterday afternoon, and Cyndi and the hubs took me for a ride on their pontoon boat. The sky was overcast, which kept the heat bearable and the wind kicking up. Lovely for boating. We headed to Fisherman’s Wharf and tied off on the dock before entering the restaurant for a meal. That’s the first time I’ve arrived at a restaurant by boat. How cool is that?!

They left early AM and I’ve had the house and dogs to myself. I can’t believe how much I accomplished without a telephone and with limited access to my email account. I finished first round edits on Stone’s Embrace (tentatively scheduled for release July 14) and shipped the story to my editor.

I worked on the synopsis for a new futuristic, set off-world, for Samhain. Something a friend and I are writing together. We are going to try writing this in tandem, alternating chapters, and following two separate plot threads. We will probably kill each other before it’s over, but it sure is fun right now.

I finally set up my iPod and hit the iTunes store. I have tons of metal CDs (like NIN, Disturbed, GNR, Audioslave, and Aerosmith), Pretenders, The Cure, U2 and Green Day to upload when I get home, but I downloaded some easy listening tunes: Jason Mraz, Plain White T’s, Kings of Leon, Black Crowes, Train, Kelly Clarkson and Jeff Buckley. Not anything I’d want a full CD of, but tunes that are nice to fall asleep to. If you have any suggestions for music I should check out, let me know. I think I have a new obsession.

Am cracking up at your “easy listening.” I need some new music. I’m listening to old Nine Inch Nails and Dandy Warhols 🙁 Don’t know what I want, though.

    MJ!
Dandy Warhols? Where have I been? I’ve never heard of them. But I’m right there with the old NIN tunes.

    Delilah,

Hope you are enjoying your stay at Cyndi’s. My father-in-law lives on Lake Hamilton.

We’ve been trying to get Cyndi to come to one of our book club meetings here in Little Rock and would love to have any of the local writers join us if you want.

Chris (aka Sandpanther) works at Books a Million in NLR and you may know him.

As far as music goes, I listen to a lot of country and I love hairbands such as Bon Jovi and Def Leppard. I also am a big fan of southern rock. My media player on my computer has all kinds of music on it that I listen to while at work. (I even have Trans Siberian orchestra on it).

    Enjoy your break.

Heather! I’m sure several writer friends of mine would love to come to the book club. Do y’all have a notification loop to join so we would know what books you are reading and we could be prepared?

LOL! I’m over the hair bands. I was still listening to Zeppelin when most of them were popular, although I have to admit I loved how obnoxious Motely Crue (sp?) was. 😆

I have some Metalica, Linkin Park, Staind, Hinder, Nickelback, & ColdPlay that I enjoy – not full CDs, but singles. For Easy Listening – try Michael Buble, Daughtry…and that’s all I can think of right now. Enjoy the Housesitting. Right now, I would pay for some peace & quiet.

I’ve been listening to Nickelback and Daughtry for a while and its probably time to switch it up but I have no idea to what.

I did buy Don’t Stop Believing as sung on that show GLEE.

No other suggestions are coming from me though. I can’t even figure out what I want to listen to next.

    Delilah,

We are meeting tomorrow at Starbucks in Little Rock on Kavanaugh at 2:30 if you have time to drop in (Hot Springs is only an hour away). Katie also invited Annaleise Evans to stop by.

We don’t really act like most book clubs. We all read about the same types of books so we just get together and visit and talk about what we have read. We swap books with each other and Chris usually brings us something cool by a new author to check out. We have a blast and usually run a lot of people off from Starbucks.

We usually meet in the evenings but Chris has to work tomorrow night so we’re meeting early. I’m gonna start twittering about it when we have meetings. We usually email each other too and anyone else that would be interested.

hope you enjoy your time in Hot Springs.

    Brandy!
I’m tempted to buy the Glee song too—made me smile when I watched them singing it.

Added Los Lonely Boys’ “Heaven”—always love the feel of that song.

Added Taproot’s “Poem”—not exactly “easy listening”—okay, it’s metal, but I like falling asleep to the bass.

    Heather!
I just got home from Hot Springs and have a lot of catching up to do. If I know when the next meeting is, I’ll do my best to be there! Sounds like fun!

Good thing you didn’t get lost on the lake! You were on LAKE HAMILTON, not Lake Catherine!

    Thanks again for staying

Do you suppose that’s why I get lost every single time I drive away from your place?! God, the bleach sank into my roots.
