Well, not in the way you usually expect when you imagine hearing those words! A story I wrote for Kristina Wright’s Duty and Desire collection for Cleis Press was picked up by Penthouse Magazine as a “Bedtime Story!”
I sent my daughter on a mission yesterday while I worked. You can’t find that magazine in any store in our nearby small town, so she went to Little Rock. Now, I don’t know if I mentioned my daughter is pregnant…? Well, anyway, she spotted a copy in Barnes and Noble in Little Rock in the “Men’s Interests” section of the magazine rack. She ended up having to climb two shelves and reach far into the back. If I’d been there, it would have been a YouTube moment.
The fun didn’t end there. I get the magazine and my mom sticks her head out of her office, “Where is it?”
I handed her the magazine and she’s pawing through the pages making faces until she gets to my story. I wonder how many authors have moms like that, huh?
Anyway, I’m sooooooo excited. It’s a 6-page spread with three very cool illustrations! Take a look!
So, the question I have is…
I know most fathers and mothers would groan if their daughters rushed through the door saying that. Looking back, can you imagine yourself ever doing that? Was there a boyfriend who might have made you a little wild and daring? Were you ever in that frame of mind where posing nude for publication would have been okay? Would you do it now?

Interesting question. Before I was married I kinda did a photo shoot in my house. I had a co-worker come over and take pictures of me in my risque clothing to nothing. Very liberating.

Well, at 61, no, I wouldn’t do it now. But I used to have a really nice body, so I might have at least given it some thought. LOL. And yes, I can imagine my mom wanting chomping at the bit to see it, and then fainting. 😈

Now I would not , too old to think about it..breasts sag and so on…when I was younger I might have considered it cause I had a great body but was too shy to show it! ❗

I was too over weight and self-conscious when I was younger and now I’m in shape but I have another body issue that wouldn’t make for good pictures. I figure that since my mom would look at my Playgirl mags when I got them she would probably have been ok with it! LOL!

I think if my daughter said that I’d be asking “which story then?” as I am sure she wouldn’t be in Penthouse in any other way! She gets embarrassed at being known as a writer so no way would she do a photo shoot 😀

What a cool Mom. My mother had kittens when she found out I was on birth control! I was 19 and married at the time. She would have had a heart attack if she knew I reading Penthouse and totally stroked out if she found out I ever so much as thought about doing anything that appeared in that mag. And yes there was some thought. But with a Mother like the one I just described, nothing more than thought. It has been awhile since since I have picked up a copy of Penthouse, (for the articles only of course) 😉 but I have to check this out. Congratulations. Thank you for sharing.

My daughter has the body for it but I don’t know that I would be thrilled, I have never had the body for it so it was never anything that I thought about LOL 😳

When I was younger I had a boyfriend that got me to do some crazy stuff. Yes I did pose for him a few times. We are still go friends. 😳
Now…NO WAY…I have had kids and now I no longer have that nicer body I use to have. Before having 4 kids and other medical issues.
If my kids did it. I don’t think I would be mad or upset. I have the mind set that if you have go for it. Just don’t make others upset if they don’t have that. Treat others the way you want to be treated.

And NO. I would never do it. Would never have done it, but only because I am terminally repressed (except when I write, of course).
If my kid did it–first of all, I’d be SHOCKED. He’s really shy. But considering what I do for a living, and considering how accepting he is of it, I could only support him. As he supports me.

My mom was an ex-hippy and very relaxed/liberated about lots of things. She would have been good with this and encouraged me in whatever made me happy and all that.
As for posing-nope. I have always been overweight and don’t have that kind of confidence. Even if hubby likes me, I will always be too self-conscious to do something like that. But maybe just for hubby??

First I don’t think my mom would ever buy, nor read the magazine, so the only thing I’d have to worry about would be someone else seeing it and telling her about it… But even then I think my mom would just shake her head and give me some lecture on god…Or on how I make bad life decisions seeking attention… I’d do it though, I’m not sure I have the body people would pay to see, but I’d totally pose nude for a magazine or an art class~ I think it would be fun and interesting…

My mom is hopelessly naive, I would have to explain the pictures in Penthouse to her and wouldn’t that be an eye opener for both of us.

I was always too self-conscious. And now that I have more confidence, people would pay me to keep my clothes on. As for my Mom, she would have killed anyone in our house that had a magazine like that. Can you say, “Prude”? 😀
