The perfect gift, or not so much

nbNaomiBellina HeadshotWhoopee! We made it through the winter holidays. Just around the corner, however, is another potentially angst-ridden event, Valentine’s Day. This holiday can be fun for couples, sad if you’re alone, and downright dangerous for those who don’t know their partners as well as they think they do when it comes time to purchase a present.

Women don’t have it as tough as men when buying a gift. Pick up a six-pack of their favorite beer, prepare a nice meal, and show up in slinky lingerie and most men are pretty darn happy. Women, on the other hand, expect men to pay attention to their desires, and not just the ones in bed. If we’ve been hinting around that we really want an item, we expect them to buy it for us. They should be listening when we talk and doing everything in their power to make us happy.

Ladies, don’t count on it. Some men are good at gift buying, others really suck. If yours falls into the latter category, give him a break. It doesn’t mean he doesn’t love you, it just means this is one thing he doesn’t do well. Hopefully, your guy has other redeeming attributes and you can forgive him this minor shortcoming.

My suggestion? Avoid disappointment this Valentine’s day, and ask him for gift cards, so you can buy what your heart really desires.

I’d like to share a cute joke about this subject:

Young Patty approaches her mother and announces, “Sally told me where babies come from.”

Mother, not ready to have this discussion, asks with dread, “Where is that, dear?”

“Sally said her sister Molly told her, Daddy puts his thingy in your mouth, then stuff comes out, then a baby grows in your belly.”

“No, sweetie, Susie’s wrong, that’s where jewelry comes from!”

Bwa-ha-ha! So true.

What would be your perfect Valentine’s Day gift? I’d love to hear from you.

Enjoy this excerpt from my latest book, Out of the Ordinary. Thank you for having me here today, Delilah, and thank you all for reading.

Out of the Ordinary“This is going to be quick and simple, right? We’ll just go through the motions, no foreplay, no kissing, just get your cock in and out of me. I’m not even going to take off this dress thingy, you can just lift it up. Wait! We don’t have any protection.” Star crossed her arms. She was not going to engage in unsafe sex. That could be just as deadly as the plague.

“I’ll protect you. No one will come in,” Roven said.

“No, I mean birth control, condoms.”

“Oh, those. We still have some from our last human visitors. They certainly enjoyed our Full Moons party. I believe there are still several in the nightstand.”

Star turned her back to Adam and bent over the bed, leaning into the mattress and spreading her arms out for support. Most men enjoyed this position, even request it, yet nothing happened.

“Well?” she asked, looking over her shoulder at him.

“Star, stand up, come here,” he said.

Star stood and moved closer to Adam. “What’s the matter?”

“Look, I can’t just perform on command. I’m not exactly in the mood, what with the thought of the plague and death headed our way and all. Let’s slow down, ease into this. Sit up here on the bed with me.”

Star sighed but climbed up on the bed and settled back against the headboard with Adam. She wasn’t in the mood either. She’d been lusting after him since they’d arrived in this strange place, and she sensed he desired her too. She knew making love with him would be glorious, but not like this. She wanted something special, involving a candlelit dinner, maybe a little slow dancing, a romantic carriage ride through the park…

“Talk to me. Tell me something about you. What do you like to do when you’re not wrangling children and getting kidnapped by aliens?”

Despite herself, Star had to smile. Adam certainly could be charming. He had stayed calm throughout this strange ordeal and was determinedly trying to get them out of trouble. Something was a little off about him that she couldn’t quite put her finger on, but this was not the time to delve into those matters.

Even though she was incredibly attracted to Adam, this whole scenario was making her nervous as hell. She was not ready to make love to a man, especially not this one, who she already felt connected with. The last person she let close to her had betrayed her trust, and she had no desire to have that painful process repeated. Something told her that once she let Adam in there would be no going back. He would be in her heart to stay.

“I like long walks on the beach, puppies, chocolate—the usual. Come on, this isn’t a dating site. Why do you care what I like?” She cringed at her tone.

“You’re awfully bitter for such a young woman, and you don’t seem to like men too much. How did you get to be this way?

I really enjoyed your post! Especially the joke! As for my perfect gift from my husband…I would simply like time. Due to two different layoffs (his then mine) he is working a job with really weird hours that causes him to be in bed around 7PM evey night. While I am working 3 part-time jobs in order to try and work close to full-time. Because of this he is on his way to bed while I am just getting in from work. So I would just really like a day where we could just be together fo awhile. That may not seem like much but it would mean the world! He is my other half and when I don’t get time with him I feel like part of me is missing. I hope you have a great Valentine’s Day!

The perfect gift for me would be a gift card to Amazon.com so I can buy books like this one for my Kindle! I just can’t buy all the ones I want and so a card would really be appreciated. And if it was from my hubby, I would show my appreciation in very special ways. 😉

Oh I was thinking about a gc to Amazon or a trip to a bookstore and cash, either works for me.
I like how he tells Star he just can’t preform on command, cool a man with some scruples and control. Most would have jumped on her.

Cute post! This year I’m asking for a big ole toaster. Ours is on the blink and with 8 peeps in our family – we need another one. DH asked me to put a bow on my head, and give him ME as a gift this year. With a guy like that…every day is like Valentine’s Day. 🙂

A nice weekend getaway. A place with a cozy fireplace and lots of wine. room service. Big fluffy robes to curl up in after you have taken a nice hot shower.

I’m not a big fan of the day. A great gift would be fully loaded pizza, hold the anchovies, a good cold draft beer, ending the night with a kick-ass action/adventure movie at our local theater. Of course, with my main squeeze by my side. 8)

I really, really want a spa day. Of corse, if it’s like the robe I requested from my entire family for my birthday for 10 years, I’ll have to buy it myself. 😡

My husband is allergic to flowers, so I usually go to the Florists and decide what I would like and have him pay the bill or I give him choices and dial them and let him order. This year, I called about a hanging plant. I have learned to tell him what I want or get it when we are together. I did buy two small boxes of sugar free chocolate for him when I went to Walmart last.

Time together would be best. A lovely dinner out where I would NOT have to cook or clean up.

Oh my gosh, what a great bunch of comments. Let’s see, we have Amazon gift cards, more time with the honey, a toaster, a getaway, a pizza beer and movie night, sex, a spa day, and flowers. They all sound great to me! When I win a big old buttload of money on the lottery, I’m going to take all these ideas and have a fabulous week. Thanks for the comments, and thank you Sharon C. I hope you enjoy Out of the Ordinary. 😆

Oh yes, I’ve been so busy with the EDJ (Evil Day Joy) lately, I just noticed Out of the Ordinary is .99 at Amazon now. I don’t know how long it will stay that way, so grab it while you can.
