Only me…
Tuesday, February 26th, 2013

So, I was very graciously asked to appear on Tristan Taormino’s radio program, I was one of five editor/writers for Cleis Press appearing on today’s segment. I’ve done radio before. I don’t love it. But answering questions is fine because I can walk around and expel some nervousness (I pace incessantly, so sometimes if you hear my panting it’s because I’m pacing too fast!). Today, I had to sit still because I was reading from one of my short stories.

You know something went sideways. It always does. Only to me. I began reading, hoping I wasn’t reading too fast or skipping words (I tend to do that when I read out loud), and I made it past the second page of printed pages…and realized my printer skipped a page…

I couldn’t help it, I started laughing. Thank goodness, Tristan recovered for me, telling listeners they’d just have to buy the book to see what happened next. *sigh* Oh boy.

Anyway, it’s just the latest catastrophe. Nothing’s every simple or easy. Trouble is attracted to my life. I may have mentioned that my dd and her family moved in while renovations are being made to her house across the street. Every time the contractor calls, I cringe, because I know he’s found another huge issue with the house. It’s never quiet here. I can’t find my “center” to dig into the story I’m supposed to be writing. Then there were two emergency room visits this past week (g-ma and dd)—both are fine, but of course the house gets turned upside down. Everything’s messy, noisy, and I have a 4-year-old sharing my bed who doesn’t like bedtime and talks my ear off before she falls asleep and I can sneak away to my keyboard…

Want my life? I think I’d trade right now.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I did my segment sitting in my Jeep outside Starbucks in the pouring rain, hoping the traffic and rain sounds weren’t filtering in over the cell phone while I balanced my laptop on my lap and scrolled through the excerpt I was reading… lol… the things we do!

Delilah, can you tell me what your email is,when I look for it I get something called a contact form, which I sent my snail mail to you as I was the first winner of the Calender but have not recieved it yet and I know if you don’t get an answer that you pick someone else,so I thought maybe Im sending my snail mail to the wrong address–my email is Can you send me yours so I can verify that you got my snail mail and if you didn’t get it I want to send it again because I was really excited to win the calendar. Although it sounds from your comments that things have been really hectic around your house so it may just be that you haven’t had time, which is fine,Im just worried that I didn’t send the snail mail to the correct place. Thanks

    Thanks for sharing.
My youngest likes to sleep in out bed. He talks in his sleep. He will even giggle. Also he loves to “roll” up into the blanket so you don’t have any. If it was not for having that extra one at the foot of the bed it would be a very cold night right now. Then he cannot sleep straight. It is always at an angle.

It took forever to get my kids out of our bed. So I can relate but was able to discover that my dtr had breathing issues due to overly large tonsils because she slept with us and we noticed she would quit breathing. She had tonsils removed and not she’s fine. It definitely affects your whole world though. Good luck with find your quite time 🙂 (now a days you can’t even have a moments peace in the restroom LOL)

You’ll look back at this and smile…maybe even miss it 🙂
For 4 months my family and I all squeezed together in two rooms piled with furniture (one sort of clear path to the bathroom and one to the door)…a lot of griping but we can laugh at it fondly now.

Delilah, no you wouldn’t trade, but I might. My Daughter and her family live up in your neck of the woods. I live in S. Texas and none of my family live less than a three hour drive away. I know I’m a grown woman, but sometimes I get homesick anyway and my daughter is definitely to far away.
