A Question…
Saturday, March 22nd, 2014

I’m going to be out of pocket for most of the day, but will check back in tonight. My question today is about a hobby I’m thinking of picking up. Those of you who follow me know I dabble in art. I’ve done some watercolor (only four, so far) and paint dominos for pendants, but I’m thinking about taking a zentangle class next month. Don’t know what that is? It’s doodling. Artistic doodling. It looks like fun, and my mother (a true artist—in oils and watercolor) and daughter are going to be joining me for the class. I spent the night surfing Amazon for supplies and books and found this one that I’m thinking about buying:

zentangle

So my question is, how many of you doodle? Have you doodled in the past?

I love drawing mind-maps for stories and think this might be a lovely way to illustrate a book or my “vision” of a book. ~DD

I learned a new word today LOL ‘zentangle’. I know about doodling, I don’t do it as much as. I used to though. I still have my drawing book from when I was in college. The one that stands out the most is one I did to express the feelings a melody by Vangelis brought out in me. I even painted it in acrylics but it doesn’t look as good as the doodle.
Good luck with your course and looking forward to your doodles!

I have the book – if you can get away from their “rules” for doodling (must have this type of paper, and that type of pen), then it’s okay. I’m thinking a class is definitely the way to go, as the books (I own two or maybe three?) don’t exactly take you step by step.

That said, both my hubby and I love to zentangle. Once you know a few “tangles”, they’re fun to doodle with. Plus you can make cute artwork for friends.

    Have fun!

Thanks, Eniko! It looks like fun, and something anyone can pick up with very little outlay in supplies. You should try it again. There are some great ideas out there on Pinterest you can try!

I wish I had artistic talent. I’m a crocheter and knitter. I have done some ceramcs. I’m capable of choosing colors and slapping them on something as long as it isn’t too detailed. Your stuff is always great so I have no doubt you will zentagle well.

Zentangle, something I’ve never heard of. Doodling on the other hand I’m quite familiar with. Will have to check out this Zentangle. Thanks for the something new & different.

Love to doodle, always have. When I notice I’m not doodling much, I kick back into it because it makes my mind creative. Haven’t tried zentangle but I have two friends who took a course in it and rave about it. Looks like a more polished, presentable form of doodling. Have fun with it, Delilah!

I used to doodle when I did a lot of phone work. I actually took 2 years of fine art, (yes, hard to believe) and I love(d) to paint. I want to get into water color more myself, but somehow I never find the time. How do you fit in all your creative time into your day? I love your books, & your jewelry is beautiful. I have to admit that that I’ve been checking out the Zentangle’s on Facebook. It looks like it would be fun.
Let us know how it goes! 🙂

    Delilah
I say “go for it”, if it’s something that you will enjoy.
I’m not a doodler but I do enjoy piddling with plants in my yard.

I doodle at work when on the phone paying out work orders and companies put me on hold for a long time. We use gel pens and I have always done art pics using the dot shading. The last one I did at work was the snail from Turbo and someone took it..lol

I doodle when Im trying to clear my mind out and when Im trying to remember something and can’t other than that I don’t because I make jewelry and it takes 2 or 3 hours a day and I HAVE to read at least one sometimes 2 books a day because I need and love that escape

I doodle when I am stuck somewhere and can’t read…e.g. on the phone. I will have to look into zentangle, it sounds interesting. Have fun!

Give it a try. I think it’s great that you and your family are taking classes together.

I’ve been doodling all my life. Now they’re telling me it’s a new art form. My granmother taught me when I was little, and said her mom taught her. What’s new is old.

I got my older sister that book and supplies for Christmas and my younger sister got me a different Zendoodle book. Creating art and making memories with your family and friends is what keeps us growing together.
