A Question…
Friday, September 5th, 2014

I’m deep in stories—yes, working on two at the moment. I have to divide my day between the Fireman and Dream projects. In a month or so, you’ll understand. But keeping the stories straight and the tones unique is fun. On top of juggling those two projects, I’m reading through Viking stories and trying to dream up one of my own. All I need is something super short. Any suggestions?

That’s not the question I have for you today. Someone did something today that I realized grated on every last nerve. She cleared her throat. Not that polite, short sound most folks make, but one that sounded like something a creature from the deep might make before it opened its big mouth and swallowed a man whole.

So it got me thinking…

Think about annoying tics. You must have a friend or family member who has one. You try to be polite and ignore it, but don’t you imagine someday snapping and reaching out to twist a scrawny neck? What is that tic that drives you crazy?

My husband clicks his fingernails together when he’s having a nervous…some days I think about taking a small hammer to just those two fingers

Tapping the end of a pen on a desk ~~ repeatedly.
My boss use to do it all the time. My desk was in another room and I could still hear it. Many times I had to go and take it away from him. Either than of strangle him.

When a friend sends me an e-mail and uses text abbreviations. By the time I figure out what she meant, she could have typed the whole phrase (especially when I have to write he back and ask what it means).

Also, when someone sends me a business e-mail or letter with text speak. Just stop it!!!!!!

My daughter fidgets and my husband sneezes like a banshee heralding the end of time.

Oh, and Vikings? What about one who goes on his first Irish raid and finds more than he bargained in a temple of Branwen?

People who eat w/their mouths full or people who chew-smacking their gum…it not only grinds on my last nerve; it literally makes me nauseous. I have to stop eating if I’m near that person & move FAR away, outta earshot. I know I’m not the only one who has issues w/this so don’t try to deny it!! 😉

WOW!! I have so many & I decided long ago that’s it not me, it’s them.

For example: I have a friend who strokes your hair. Like MY hair. I want to take the mace to her. Think mediaeval mace there.

I have a friend who constantly sniffles and when I finally tell her to go blow her nose, she blows for 15 or more minutes cause she said the blowing got something stuck, its so bad I have even offered for her to go to the doctor and I would pay but she’s not interested, now she’s quitting smoking so in addition to those 2 habits she has started biting her fingernails and then she spits it out,I swear one of the days Im going to accidently fall hard on her face so she has to go to the doctors, specially since now she says that maybe chewing gum would help to quit smokig faster and who wants to bet she does it with her mouth open gggaaahhh

Certain kinds of chewing–it sounds silly, but if it’s distracting during dinner, it is not fun to look at 😉
