Indulgences… A Question and a Contest
Saturday, August 15th, 2015

I’ve been a very busy girl lately—writing, publishing, promoting. And then yesterday, I took a break to go back-to-school shopping with my daughter and her kids. And now you mothers, who know that was no break, are snickering.

Picture this: three adults, two eleven-year-olds, a six-year-old, a two year-old… I was the person poised at the shop door to watch for escapees. We went to a mall and dared the shoe sale at Footlockers. All I can say is the 6-year-old was fastest. The 11-year-old girl took only fifteen minutes of real searching to find a shoe she loves. The boy? Good lord, he wore us down trying on every ugly shoe imaginable until he found a reasonable-ish Air Jordan. I remember why I shop for my flip-flops on Amazon.

So today, I think I need a truly stressless day. A “me” day. Since one of my simple pleasures is flea market hunting—I don’t consider it shopping because you can’t find the Xena action figures on the action figure aisle!—I think that’s where I’m going. If I have energy after a long soak in the pool.

My question to you, for a chance to win a free download of any book from Samhain backlist, is…

What is a simple pleasure you indulged in recently?

Besides reading? Refinishing furniture, well doors right now. Nobody bothers me when I do this.

    Toni! Nice ones!

Becky! I wish I was that handy! I look at old pieces of furniture and think about what could be done to make them pop. Then I fizzle thinking about all that sanding…

I get to indulge today–no one in the house but me, so I’m going to write all afternoon, and right now, Highlander is on my tv. 😀

I was able to float in the pool child-free for about 30 minutes a few days ago. That’s about the only simple pleasure I can remember. Oh, but it was pure, unadulterated bliss!

I did a little shopping today at a local festival. I got some really cool, unique stuff. I don’t do it often because it is such an indulgence to spend money freely.

I had so much fun at the flea market today! I bought two small hutches I plan to refurb into hanging altars; two strings of pretty beads—cream lentils and dark blue Czech glass rondelles; olive fabric I may use to make a shawl for my dd, or a skirt for a zombie doll, or a poppet; a yard of ugly orange and green fabric ribbon I have no idea what to do with (but it was only $0.25, so what the heck?); wooden buttons I want to decoupage and use in jewelry; and old watches I can disassemble for steampunk art parts. TREASURES! 😯 😳

A hot bath and a glass of wine. Those are my favorite things it makes everything look better. I makes me feel good too. 🙂

I love going to flea markets/thrift stores but I haven’t done much of that lately. Reading is the thing I enjoy most these days. Tonight hubby and I helped 4 friends celebrate their birthdays when we went out to dinner with a bunch of friends (16 total people).
