Friends and Daughters…
Tuesday, December 29th, 2015

Seeing as a new year is just around the corner, I gave myself light goals this week. I’m spending a ton of time with my daughter. She’s got her three kids and a step for the break, and the house is in chaos. I’ve been helping watch kids, clean house, change diapers, etc. I don’t understand the need to squeal and shriek and pound feet through the house, but I guess it has something to do with self-expression and dominance—the loudest gets heard. By the time the 1st of January hits, I’ll be glad to be back at my desk…in the quiet. 🙂

I spend a lot of time with my dd, regardless of the holiday. She lives right across the highway. Her house is maybe two football fields in length away from my front door. When I’m working, I break mid-morning for coffee with her. At the end of my workday, I head to her place to unwind, drink more coffee and eat dinner. If I get out of there before baths and bedtime, I might be back over there later in the evening for a spot of tea.

When she was growing up, she was such a hellion. Red hair, fiery temper, and such a mouth! But now, we’re best friends. We go everywhere together. Travel together. Flea market shop together. Spend art days together. I never would have imagined a friendship like that between us, but there it is. She’s my rock and vice versa.

Do you have someone like that in your life?

My daughter is 28, she is my best friend. I remember when she around 16, I took her to therepy to deal with her deafness (she’s totally deaf on the left side, partial on the right due to her abusive biological sperm donor) and she was explaining to the therapist that she and I were best friends when the therapist interrupted her to explain, in no uncertain terms, that THAT wasn’t possible. I was not her friend, let alone her BEST friend. That I was her mother. I couldn’t be BOTH. I’ll never forget that day. I was waiting in the car when she rushed out, earlier than the alloted hour, banging on the window for me to unlock the door with tears running down her face. When I finally got her calmed down and she told me what was said, OH LORD FORGIVE ME, I wasn’t nice when I went back in that office! We never went back.
My daughter is my best friend. She has been since the day she was born. My little miracle. God truly sent me one of his angels. We share everything from clothes to food, from dreams to fears, from secrets to gossip, from right to wrong. She’s my confidant and I’m hers.
When I ended up in the hospital for a month she thought nothing of putting her life on hold and moving in to take over raising her 4 young siblings, even tho she’d just had a baby a month earlier, just so that my hubby could stay with me full time at the hospital.
She is my light and I am hers…..

I actually have two people, my husband is one of my best friends. He is male, so he has a different take on life. Then there is my other best friend and adopted sister she is there for me…always. Just so there is not confusion I am there for her also. When she was diagnosed with breast cancer she called me and said she was having surgery. I said when, I am on my way. I went and stayed with her, I made her laugh when no one else could. The doctor said it was the first time she had seen my sister smile, she said I was good for her and for me to stick around. I did. She is one of a kind…love her dearly!!!! 🙂

It’s wonderful that you and your daughter have that kind of relationship. I think my relationship with my mother was good (she’s gone now) but it wasn’t anything like yours.

My hubby is the closest I have to a best friend. He listens to me tell him about all of the books I read. I know he pays attention because he often asks me questions about who or what I’m reading. He likes your books, too! 🙂

My Mom and I are on the phone three or four times a day. We get together every weekend. When I bought my last car, she mentioned she doesn’t like a car, so I got an SUV so she would be comfortable (as she likes to tell me, old people don’t heal as fast and she is safer in the bigger vehicle). She will be 81 in May and I am very glad she is in good health and we can spend all this time together. She really is my best friend.

I was raised in a foster home situation. My Parent were the foster parents. I have 27 brothers and sisters. I was born with 2 birth brothers and me the middle child. We had lots of fun but also very protective of our other brothers and sister’s. I didn’t have a true sister so I went out and found my own. We have been best friends/sister’s for over 40 years and yes we argue, laugh and cry like true sister’s and share our live’s, life’s and love of our families as real sister’s…. Life is good.
