UPDATE: The winner is…Pamela Reveal!

* * * * *

I’m hard at work this week, writing the next Stepbrothers Stepping Out story, and prepping two novellas—one a SEAL story, the other a futuristic—to have ready for pre-order. I like setting up pre-orders because they set hard deadlines. I have to wrap up my work (writing/revising) by a certain date, so Amazon doesn’t slap my hand. I need deadlines. Need a whip cracking over my head to get things done.

Did anyone watch the Tony award show Sunday night? Wow. Just wow. My daughter and I are award show junkies. We watch the Oscars to look at the pretty dresses and to find out about movies we’ve never seen or heard of. Since the Oscars, we’ve watched Room (OMFG, can any movie be more depressing?) and The Revenant (Gah! How did they make twenty minutes of story stretch 2 1/2 hours long?). We watch the Grammy’s hoping for great performances, and usually, there’s only one or two we can point to and say Wow! The Tony award show was one stellar performance after another. Dear lord, those people can really sing and act. And now, I’m a Hamilton fan! Hell, I haven’t seen the play in its entirety, but I’m ready to buy the cast recording!!

Okay, so rambling again, and I did have something fun I wanted to share with you today. I’m going to make you work a bit! Writers love “prompts”. Something that unlocks a story in our heads. It’s a lovely exercise in stretching our imaginations. A place to begin brainstorming. I have this photo I bought from a photo stock site that I just know will unlock stories. Love the pun? See how I did that? Not impressed? *sigh*

Okay, here’s the deal. Look at the picture. Think about a story that might fit that picture. Tell me a story in the comments, and you’ll be entered to win an Amazon gift card. You can type one line if you like, and you’ll have an equal chance to win. Above all, have fun!

    Locks of love. In the distant past, in the fragments of history books that read like fairy tales in what remains of the world, I think those words offered hope to someone. These locks of love represent the wall of those who fell. They left their names for us instead of graves. We honor their memory on this day and take a different kind of hope from these locks of love.

    Ahh, which lock does your key unlock? I can see so many stories linked to each one… will it lead you to your destiny? A treasure hunt to so much more…

    A rusted lock and two individuals revisiting what was and maybe what will be.

    She had been pulled to this bridge by some deep compulsion not knowing exactly why, until she saw all the locks. Now the key she had worn on a chain around her neck made much more sense. She h ad c always thought it was just a quirky family heirloom but now she wondered what it really was. Which lock would it open and what would happen when it did?

    I had a flashbulb moment when I saw the picture!….A woman loses her husband (I’m thinking a publicized death like a cop) and after his death she takes his lock off his locker (I’m picturing a work locker) and she finds gifts he had been buying for her. She puts the lock on the fence in front of her house to remember him. Slowly other people add locks from their lost loved ones. A reporter comes to her and asks for an interview. They fall in love. The lock in the middle is for them. It’s sappy but….. 🙂

    We have felt the pain some more than others. The pain of having our hearts broken. We think we have found the most precious gift only to have it ripped from our chest to never heal or love again. We add locka after locks to our heart….but its not enough…like the darkness it keeps wanting to sneak in, rob our hearts……..stealing away our emotions adding more locks as it closes its self away tighter tighter you hear the clicking of the locks

    She felt the snick of the lock snapping shut as a tug on her soul, and again she wondered yet again whether this engagement, this arrangement, was truly a deal with the devil.
