Tell me a story… (Contest)

UPDATE: The winner of this contest is…Alyssa Drake!

* * * * *

I collect photos like some folks collect baseball cards or Fenton glass. In my down time, it’s not unusual for me to peruse the stock photo sites, looking for a little inspiration for future stories. I found this photo, and while I didn’t have a particular project in mind (still don’t!), the woman, the misty setting—they intrigued me. So I downloaded it.

Writers often use “photo prompts” to kickstart the brainstorming process. Today, if you’d like to play, you can try your hand at coming up with your own story idea. Doesn’t have to be long or involved. Just have fun!

If you do decide to play, there’s a free story in it for one lucky winner! You can choose any story from among my most recently released series, Night Fall, Cowboys on the Edge or Uncharted SEALs

    A beauty and the beast meets jane eyre. A woman falls in love with a man, he is alpha beastly, dominant, strange and distant. She loves him, he tries to keep her at a distance. He mysteriously disappears, she wonders the moor (Ireland or Scotland) waiting his return. She gets concerned so she sets off to solve the mystery. Turns out there is a curse, other characters trying to keep them apart. He needed to save her, break a curse to fully claim her. Something like that? Mixing the two stories ( my two favorites) and setting them in the ghostly moors.

    I definitely feel mystery, romance and paranormal in this setting… ooh maybe a reverse siren story with the guy with a magical voice that draws the woman deep into the mist…

    Loralie is a spector cursed to wander the moors at night searching for her true love, who abandoned her on the eve of their wedding. Her beautiful voice lures men into the fog, where they each meet a gruesome death. Jasper, a ghost hunter, hears of the unexplained deaths and tracks her into the moors. This image is his first glimpse of her.

    When I saw the picture I thought of a woman walking on the moor thinking about her lost love. It’s such a cool, moody picture.

    Love the picture.

    Her name is Delana Blacktorne and she thinks the only love she’s ever known has betrayed her and left her with no warning. Little does she know that they are both being lied to and nasty people are working to keep them apart. None more nasty than her rich, overbearing father.

    The only peace she finds is walking through the bayou at night, listening to the animals, listening to the eerie night sounds, reliving happier times when she and her lover discovered the magic of the bayou. That’s where they fell in love and it is the only place she can feel close to him.

    His name is Chance Diamond. He’s just discovered that the past year has been one giant lie and that his life, and his faith in Delana, were destroyed by a totally selfish man. Now that he knows the truth about what really happened, he’s on his way back to his sweet bayou lady. Nothing, and no one, will stand in his way. She is the only woman he’s ever loved and she will be his. And God help the man who’s kept them apart. Chance Diamond is on a mission……a mission to reclaim his life and his lady. 8)
