A Question…
Thursday, December 14th, 2017

Today is a rare chance for me to sit at my desk. All day. Well, after I have my first morning coffee with my dd across the street as we sit together and watch all the kids, other than the 4-year-old, climb into their bus for school. Then, it’s back to my place. Maybe I’ll start my day by clearing off my desk. I’ve let things pile up for a week. I can still see the monitor, so it’s all good, but since I have time…

I’m editing today. All day. Not my favorite thing to do, but I am enjoying the author’s story. I get the privilege of reading her words first. There’s not time for new words of my own, because I’m pushing up against the deadline to be finished with her work. Hopefully, this weekend I’ll be lost in my own writing.

All my Christmas presents are bought. All but my dd’s presents and a few things for the older ladies are wrapped (because my dd did the wrapping). I still have to make a few things—bracelets, a little sewing project. I’m feeling a little antsy about getting to those now.

I didn’t want any stress surrounding this holiday, but I’m beginning to feel the pinch in my neck. And I’m going to bed later and getting up feeling not so well-rested.

So, my question to you is:
How do you cope with the stress of the holidays?

Have fun with it. I’d love some nice nuggets of genius, but I’ll enjoy some silliness, too! 🙂

Stress surrounding the holidays…thank heaven that I am not much of a drinker! Walking, laughing, Christmas movies, great coffee while reading on the back porch…doing “feel good” things like donating to charities: the food pantry, women’s shelter, toy drives…
My hubby recently retired due to a corporate layoff. We have been spending time making certain we have a secure future financially but also quality time on our relationship. Rolling around under the covers is a super STRESS buster ????! It is so easy to get caught up in the chaos of the holidays. Stuff does not equal or convey LOVE. Time, caring, smiles and hugs are the true GIFTS.
    Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays/Happy New Year. Blessings ????????????????

How do you cope with the stress of the holidays?

By watching my favorite programs and playing games like Angry Birds [hitting things in the game helps with a lot of stress] listening to videos from my nephews band. 🙂

    Thank You,

No stress in gift-giving…especially for DD (age 30); she tells us what she’d wish she could afford. I quietly note it down, then in early December (starting from the most recent and working backwards) search the Internet for her “hints” – and select the one that is (a) inexpensive, and (b) easy to “replicate” in a silly way.
    E.G: she hinted for perfume.
Although she’s expecting a BIG NAME perfume, I’ve bought a cheapo basket, and am filling it with a dozen bottles of $2 Shop cheapo perfumes. As she also hinted at silk shawls, they’re also from the $2 Shop, and will nestle around the perfumes so she cannot shake the parcel and guess.
I’m chuckling every day as I imagine her reaction.

If you can’t make gift-giving fun, then – what’s the point of calling it a happy Xmas? 😛

I’m not sure I actually do handle the stress. My go to for anything – stress, anger, sadness, etc. – is to pick up my kindle, go off somewhere by myself and read.

But, by the time holidays are over, I’m tired (cause I’ve done too much as usual), I’m broke (cause I’ve spent too much), I’m depressed (cause my kids/grandkids don’t really appreciate anything) and I’m just damn glad it’s over. Sounds awful I know but I’m just being honest.

I get lost in a book – my answer for everything these days. 🙂
