Diana Cosby: Nature – Continual Inspiration For My Muse (Contest)
Sunday, March 8th, 2020

UPDATE: The winner is…Debra Guyette!
*~*~*

©Diana Cosby 2020

With each book I write, I’m continually inspired by nature. Recently, I had a pair of Baltimore Orioles visit. They’re stunning birds, and I’ll miss them once they continue their journey north.

As hints of spring fill the air, with flowers beginning to nudge through the earth, and migration starting, I’m keeping watch for birds as they travel through, including the Blue Grosbeaks.

Walking through the woods, fragrant with the scent of pine, I spot birds that I see year-round, like the chickadee.

On a recent visit to the marsh, with the scent of salt and the sea filling the air, I saw these gorgeous does at the edge of the woods.

I enjoy watching the sunrise. There’s something magical about when the first rays stream through the sky, slowly illuminating the land. With the beauty that unfolds, as I never know what I’m going to see, each morning’s sunrise is like a gift. With each day, regardless of where I go, nature’s beauty surrounds me, and the sights, scents, and sounds are continual inspiration for my muse.

I love the spring with the birds are singing, the trees are budding out and the flowers are starting to bloom. The world reawakens come spring.

What lovely pictures that you have shared with us. Bird watching can be so much fun. I like to create little stories about them myself. My friends and family think I’m nuts, but I think that is their problem. 😀 Like the Robin who built a nest on the down spout of the the cutter at the end of my porch every year. He was diligent about it, creating a work of art. The first year he attracted a mate with his creation who successfully hatched some chicks. Oh the fuss they made whenever I went to the porch to sit. She would sit on the snowball push across the drive and yell at me while he would flit around looking for ways to lure me away. Quite sweet really. The next year, I think the squirrels found the nest too. I found the eggs smashed on the ground. Sadness. The year after that, tragedy struck. The female was killed. Poor Mr. Robin sat on the down spout and cried. It became sporadic then whether of not he got takers for his annual creation, but watched for him every year and watched him build a nest for prospective mate. Sadly, I had to move from that home so I don’t know if the new owners have been as tolerant of the annual visitor. But I miss him. *sigh* I miss that place entirely. That is only one of the many nature stories I have from there. Thank you for the memories.

Diana – thanks so much for sharing your photos. I know little about birds, but love hearing them sing and watching them. I try to memorize the song and translate it into human words so I can do a web search to find out what is singing. I live in Maine, where the oak, maple and fir trees are so tall, I can’t see the birds. But I have found many through my “song” web search. I have a pair of cardinals that return annually. And I used to have mourning doves until, sadly as in another story, the nest was wiped out. I could see it from my window, and watch the male protecting the female by chasing away predators. And one day it was gone. Years later, I still watch that spot and the spot under my eaves where they used to hide. I did hear the song of one the other day, so maybe they are returning.

    ~:) Bird watching is fun.

~Sounds like you have tons of birds to watch. It’s a fun challenge trying to figure out which bird’s song you’re hearing. Maine is wonderful. I miss living there.

But I have found many through my “song” web search. I have a pair of cardinals that return annually.

~That’s neat. Cardinals are amazing to watch.
