UPDATE: The winner is…Carol Cox!
*~*~*

IMG_8426I bought this little brainstorming tool years ago at some writers’ conference. “Story Cubes” is (that looks wrong, but I promise it’s not) a brainstorming game. You roll the dice and whatever pictures appear face up are the ones you use to riff off a story.

Here’s the roll…

Do any of these symbols tell you anything? You can pick some or use all of them. Tell me a story, or just a glimmer of an idea, for a chance to win a $5 Amazon gift card!

I was participating in a scavenger hunt at a small castle. Looking all over for some interesting items on the list… I found some fish in the castle’s water feature, found an abacus in the library, and a bow and arrow outside… let’s see what else I can find!

The princess shines her flashlight out of her tower window hoping to make it reflect off the water in her favorite fountain. She turns from the window to survey her lab. Arrows, abacus, fish, and looking-glasses all in their places. What a wonderful day!

Once upon a time, there lived a great scholar who resided in a castle and kept his workroom in the tower. One day, while looking through his magnifying glass to examine strange markings on an arrow fletching, he heard a loud splash. Marking 50 on his abacus, he walked to his window and prepared to yell at whomever disturbed his work. His jaw dropped as he beheld a naked woman spear fishing in his fountain! Even as he struggled to overcome his shock, she pulled a fish off the end of the spear, lit a torch and proceeded to cook it! All while sitting, still naked, on the edge of his fountain…

The flashlight illuminated the fountain in front of the castle so the fish could find his arrow

I went fishing with my nephew in the local pond. He pulled out a huge fish! So big I’d never seen anything like it. Suddenly we heard a loud bang. My first thought was something blew up or something happened at that castle that was built nearby the pond by a wealthy Hollywood couple. It wasn’t a real castle just a great reproduction. Probably the best reproduction I’ve ever seen placed smack dab in Appalachia Kentucky. I hope nobody is hurt!, I said so we got up and ran as fast as we could to the structure… But on the way, we took a wrong turn…
