Cooper’s Hawk

Great Blue Heron

Great Egret

I love taking nature photos, it’s an enjoyable pastime, one that refills my muse.  Today I’d like to share some of my favorite photos that I’ve taken this year.  I hope you enjoy.

As I walk through the woods or along the marsh it’s always wonderful to come across deer. They’re beautiful and have such an amazing presence.

On rare occasions, I see foxes, which makes when I do see them, extra special.  This spring I had the honor of seeing a pair of foxes with their kit.

Baltimore Oriole

Bluebird

Cardinal

There is such a huge variety of birds where I live, I never know what I’m going to see.

Turkey

Turkey Vulture

Ruddy Turnstone

This year was the first time I saw a turkey in the wild and was able to get a photo.  A few weeks ago, a Turkey Vulture land in a tree near me.  They’re huge and this one had about a six-foot wingspan.  In addition to seeing my first ever Ruddy Turnstone, I had to share at least one photo of bees. 🙂

Living near the ocean, in the salt air, the sunrises are gorgeous.  What is your favorite nature memory of 2020?

Diana Cosby: Inspiration From Nature – Deer (Contest)

UPDATE: The winner is…Jackie Wisherd!

Photography is an enjoyable pastime, one that refills my muse.  On my walks, I see such a huge variety of animals and birds, but it’s always wonderful when I see deer.

I usually come across does with their young.  So, it’s a treat when I spot a buck; on rare occasions, I’ll see more than one.

Deer are beautiful animals.  Seeing them always takes my breath away.  They have such a calm and majestic presence.

As spring arrives, I keep watch for fawns.  They’re usually hidden deep in the woods or when alone, laying down in tall grass, so it’s always special to see them.

As the year passes, the spots fade from the fawn’s coat as they grow.  By winter, they’re so big, it’s hard to tell the yearlings from the adult deer.

What do you like best about deer?  If you’ve seen deer, what’s your favorite memory?

Diana Cosby: Update – Diana Cosby’s Romance Reader’s Build A Habitat For Humanity House (Contest)
Friday, September 18th, 2020

UPDATE: The winner is Rachel Lerner!
*~*~*

My sincere thanks to Delilah for allowing me to return to her wonderful blog and share an update of Diana Cosby’s Romance Readers Build A Habitat For Humanity Home.

A bit of background.  Romance readers are AMAZING, and SO is Habitat For Humanity, a charity that I love supporting and volunteering for.  Several years ago I thought, why not pair the two and help a deserving family receive a home?  And, the Diana Cosby’s Romance Reader’s Build A Habitat For Humanity House fundraiser was born.

I contacted the Habitat For Humanity office in Grayson County, Texas, where I’ve had the honor of helping with several builds and spoke with Laurie Mealy, Executive Director.  She embraced the project and was thrilled at the thought of pairing romance readers, who love stories where heroes and heroines overcome challenges to make their dreams come true, with making the dream of homeownership for a deserving family a reality.

Goal:  Fund an entire home – $55,000.

I kicked off the challenge by donating $200.  As I write this, we’ve raised $22,135, which includes donations from several countries.  Romance readers are amazing, and I have complete faith that as the stories they love, they will continue to join together to raise the amount necessary to give a deserving family a home.

How it works:

As readers send donations to Habitat for Humanity of Grayson County for the ‘Diana Cosby’s Readers Build A Habitat For Humanity House of Love,’ the total contributions are updated below the house graphic on the upper right side of their homepage.  Donations can be sent via PayPal by ‘clicking’ on the house, which takes you to the donation page, or by mailing a check or money order to:

Habitat for Humanity of Grayson County
901 N. Grand Avenue
P.O. Box 2725
Sherman, TX 75091

*Please note on your donation: ‘For Diana Cosby’s Romance Readers Build A Habitat For Humanity House.’

Again, my sincere thanks to Delilah for allowing me to return to her blog, and another huge thanks to everyone for helping make an incredible difference in a deserving family’s life.  For when they walk into a Habitat For Humanity house, it’s more thank mortar and wood, but a place where they can call home.

Diana Cosby: Nature Through The Lens – A Creative Outlet (Contest)
Friday, August 14th, 2020

UPDATE: The winner is…Eniko!
*~*~*

©Diana Cosby 2020

In addition to writing, I enjoy photography.  A creative outlet for me is to see what photographs of nature I can take.  This summer, I was thrilled to catch this photo of a kit.

The juvenile red-tailed hawks are out, and I’m fortunate to have a pair that lives near me.  It’s fun watching the hawks learn to fly.

The yellow-crowned night heron chicks have hatched, grown, and flown from their nests, allowing adults to linger in the marsh.

On rare occasions, I see phoebes.  They’re gorgeous birds, and I was thrilled to catch a photo of this bird.

One of my favorite birds is the song sparrow.  They have a beautiful song and tend to be very friendly.  What is your creative outlet?

Diana Cosby: Nature’s Beauty – In The Forest (Contest)
Friday, July 10th, 2020

UPDATE: The winner is…Anna Taylor Sweringen!
*~*~*

©Diana Cosby 2020

Along with writing, I enjoy photography, and I’m continually amazed at the wide range of nature that I see.  During the spring, I’m always looking to see the newborn animals.  This year, I was fortunate enough to see this fox with her kit.

As well, I was thrilled to come upon this gorgeous young buck with his antlers just beginning to show.

A few weeks ago, while out in the forest, I came across a wild turkey.  Thankfully the sun was out when I took this photo so you can see the gorgeous colors of the turkey’s feathers.

I often see bunnies during my walks, but this spring I was fortunate to see my first ever grey bunny.

With temperatures warming, the dragonflies are out.  So far this year, I’ve seen brown, blue, red, and green dragonflies.  What is your favorite animal or bird that lives in the forest?

Diana Cosby: Nature’s Beauty – At The Marsh (Contest)
Monday, June 15th, 2020

UPDATE: The winner is…Lindsay Ramos!
*~*~*

©Diana Cosby 2020

Along with writing, I enjoy photography, and I’m amazed at the variety of incredible nature that I see. I wanted to share a few recent photos that I took while walking at the marsh. I was thrilled to come upon this gorgeous young buck with his antlers just beginning to show. I remember seeing him and his sibling last spring when they were fawns.

The Osprey have built their nests throughout the marsh. The bond between the couples is amazing. A few days ago, I watched an Osprey eating a fish. When the bird had finished half of the catch, it flew back to the nest and the mate came and finished the meal.

One of the neatest things is to discover a new bird. This year I saw my first Ruddy Turnstone at the marsh. They’re about the size of a small dove, have feather coloring like a calico cat, and tend to travel around in small flocks.

Another bird I enjoy seeing is the Willet. These sleek, quick, and very vocal shore birds run up and down the beach in search of food.

Laughing Gulls are appropriately named. Their call sounds like someone laughing. Until I took this photo, I didn’t realize how ruby red the inside of their mouth is. I hope you’ve enjoyed some of the photos I’ve taken during my walks to the marsh. Take care, and I wish you the best.
