Sunday Report Card
Sunday, February 28th, 2010

It’s the last day of the month, so it’s time to reflect on all the progress I made.

I wrote chapters 7 through 15 of the big book, adding 158 pages. I began writing my third Lonestar Lovers story and a short story.

Love in Bloom and Fun with Dick and Jayne were published. First Knight sold.

This past week, I slacked off on my word count. But since I am still ahead of schedule on the big book, I’m not all that worried. Besides, it was time I took a breather and revisited everything I’d written to polish it a bit. I was loosing site of the plot in all that yummy sex. With the help of Sasha White, I did find a plot for my short story and started writing it. It’s due for submission on the 15th of March.

For March, I have to finish writing and editing the big book. I want to ship it before March 30th. I will finish Lonestar Lovers-3. I’ll finish and submit 3 short stories. And for fun, I’ll attend the NOLA chapter’s conference in Shreveport, Louisiana next weekend!

Quick brag. I earned 5 dragons from Veiled Secrets Reviews for Knight of my Dreams. Here’s a snippet of what the reviewer had to say:

“…Quentin’s grief and attempts to save Darcy just pulled at my heart for him. The passion he and Darcy share gave him the ability to sexually satisfy the vampire witch whom he never wanted to see again. That sex was so hot I could see why she wanted to trap him again. This is a very impassioned story filled with the deep longing, powerful sex and overwhelming desire that you feel in your soul for that special person who is the other half of you…”

Nice, huh?

Okay, second quick brag. This one is 4 1/2 cherries from Whipped Cream Reviews for Unforgiven.

“…Delilah Devlin’s scorching and unforgettable story UNBRIDLED, has been followed up by the equally hot and mesmerizing UNFORGIVEN…As with any Devlin tale, the sex is so hot it should come with a burn notice. But more importantly, you get pages packed with so much emotion it chokes you. That’s the beauty of her work, and the reason I have her on my TBR author list…”

Yesterday’s winner will be named at the end of this posting. ~DD

This popped up in my inbox this morning. Don’t you just love Google Alerts?

From Night Owl Reviews, 5 out of 5 stars:
“… This is one hot book. This is my first m/f/m, m/f/m/f, f/f, and m/m all in one book! And whoa nelly, this was a smoking hot story….”

Ahhh, feels good. Yesterday, I added a scene to Fun with Dick and Jayne during edits. I added 700 words to First Knight and shipped it to my EC editor. Cross your fingers she likes my little medieval vampire story. Then I worked on editing what I have so far of Beloved Captor. I hope today that I get some serious pages under my belt.

I thought you might like to see what Samhain is working on for the cover of my print release in October. The book will include Saddled, Unbridled and Unforgiven. What do you think?

Okay, I’ll stop teasing. The winner of yesterday’s contest (by random number generator) is…Rasha! Be sure to stop by tomorrow. My guest will be Ellora’s Cave author, Nina Pierce. Y’all have a terrific day!

Flashback: Silent Knight
Friday, December 25th, 2009

I’m taking a break today from cruise pictures to wish you all a very Merry Christmas! ~DD

If you post a comment today, you’ll be in the running
for a free download of this book!

Today, I’m giving you an excerpt from my one and only holiday story. Silent Knight was released in December 2005 by Ellora’s Cave and exists in the My Immortal Knight realm.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

From eCataRomance: “…The perfect holiday read! Delilah Devlin took a Christmas tale to a whole new level when she crafted SILENT KNIGHT.”

From Romance Divas: “…[SILENT KNIGHT] is a sizzling hot vampire story tht will take you on a short escape — the perfect read for a busy holiday season. Sexy and fun, make sure Silent Knight is on your holiday “must read” list!”

From A Romance Review: “Erotically decedent and thrillingly carnal, Noelle and Magnus’ story is enough to make a person self-combust with want.”

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Noelle Moyaux questions her gift of sight until a chance encounter with a mysterious stranger sets her on a path to save his soul.

Magnus Thornton is a millennium-old vampire who has found evidence of an old foe’s evil at work in the demolished city of New Orleans. Weary of the fight, he decides to greet the coming dawn after a night reveling in his favorite things—a bottle of Bordeaux and a willing woman.

Noelle seems the answer, but she quickly creeps into his heart-the vampire, so jaded from life he never speaks, must now persuade Noelle to flee the city before it’s too late.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Noelle Moyaux flicked off the battery-powered Christmas lights that ringed her metal cart, folded her purple tablecloth into a small tidy square and tucked it and the folding table inside the cart before latching the lid closed.

She wheeled the cart across the busy street and waved to her friend Gerard, the owner of a small Cajun restaurant. Continuing around the back of the eatery, she stowed her palmistry kiosk in the storage unit she’d rented from Gerard since before the troubles.

Today’s earnings were slim, despite the unseasonably warm weather that allowed the thin-blooded residents of the city to roam the streets in light jackets. No one believed in a future amid the chaos—and some questioned her ability since she’d received no divination of the coming catastrophe. Indeed, Noelle questioned her gift daily as she sat beneath her umbrella in front of the embroidered cloth advertising “Noelle’s News”.

If not for the little nest egg of money she’d saved from substitute teaching before the flood, she’d be in dire straits.

Clutching her purse close to her side, she headed down the street toward home.

One last night. One last chance to lose myself in The Hunger, a fine glass of wine and the body of a willing woman. Before my last sunrise—the first I will see in nearly a thousand years…

Noelle heard the quiet, fleeting thought as she passed through the crowd ambling along Bourbon Street and spun to find the owner. The inner voice that accompanied the thought was masculine and raspy. Added to the familiar spark of connection when her skin had brushed against his was a wash of the blackest melancholy she’d ever sensed. It nearly drowned her in despair.

While I'm away…
Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

Tonight, I’ll shower and dress, maybe lay down for an hour, or maybe just get into the car and find someplace to drink coffee, but I know I won’t be sleeping. My flight leaves early in the morning and I have a bit of a drive to get to the airport. So why bother? Besides, I’ve been waiting so long for this vacation, I haven’t slept well for days. And the dreams!!

Well, let’s just say, Paul Rudd and Antonio Banderas snuck into my dreams and got very busy. I love celebrity dream boyfriends. Although the one I had once about Dennis Hopper was pretty twisted.

Anyway, I’m rambling because I can’t stay on one subject. The point is, I’ll be gone for nearly two weeks and I have a ton of guests scheduled to keep you entertained. So please be sure to come by and say hello. You might meet a new author, connect with a fellow reader, or read a posting that might teach you something. Comment and someone hit that tweet button!

This is who I have scheduled:
Dec 10: Rachel Lynne
Dec 11: Vivi Anna
Dec 12: Bonnie Dodge
Dec 13: Shayla Kersten
Dec 14: Marley Delarose
Dec 15: Masha Holl
Dec 16: Rose’s Plotting Bootcamp Promo
Dec 17: Meg Benjamin
Dec 18: Mary Alice Pritchard
Dec 19: Kathy Kulig
Dec 20: Ashlyn Chase
Dec 21: Heather N

Y’all have fun. And I’ll try my best to check in while I’m gone, but no promises! ~DD

Had to add this fabulous review, just in from Whipped Cream Reviews:

“Two hot cowboys plus one saucy woman equal a whole lotta lovin’ in this latest offering my author Delilah Devlin. UNBRIDLED is a book that offers exactly what the title promises – something wild, untamed, and oh-so naughty!

Saying the story gets off to a sizzling start is an understatement. Dani return’s home a day early to surprise her childhood best friend and boyfriend, Rowe–only to discover him naked as the day he was born inside their love nest, waiting for a lover. Shock doesn’t begin to describe her reaction when she learns it’s not a woman meeting him, but a man she had a fling with years ago and never forgot–the notorious town bad boy Justin Cruz.

Justin is hard, unyielding, and dangerous. Readers will sense the power he wields from the first moment he appears on the page. Ultimately, this is his tale as he’s in love with both Dani and Rowe but doesn’t know how to let his emotions go and trust they will shelter his heart versus crush it. You won’t like him much in the beginning, but as you unravel the layers of this complex man, you’ll understand why he’s become a playboy that remains detached from those he sleeps with.

The heart and playful side of the story come courtesy of Dani and Rowe. It’s evident that they adore one another but need something more to make their relationship work. Both are submissive and desperately crave a dominant force to complete them. They find all of that and more in Justin, and work together to convince the sexy cowboy that putting down roots together is the only way they’ll all be happy.

I have to say, the story leaves you wanting more, and after taking a look I see that Dani’s brother Cutter has his own novella coming soon. I’ve already written the newest installment on my TBR list and can’t wait to see what happens next. UNBRIDLED is a fast paced and blistering hot read that you won’t be able to put down.”

Flashback: Ride a Cowboy
Saturday, December 5th, 2009

If you post a comment today, you’ll be in the running
for a free download of this book!

Today, I’m giving you an excerpt from my very first cowboy book. Ride a Cowboy was released in February 2006 by Ellora’s Cave and has since appeared in two print compilations.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

From The Romance Studio: “…Ooooh is this hot! So very descriptive in the sheer need to be loved, to be not only desired sexually by the other. Proving to Katelyn that all men aren’t like her ex, Daniel gives of himself without any hesitation. What a man! This is a keeper, fellow readers, and not just for those dedicated “sexy cowboy” fans.”

From Romance Divas: “…This is one book I could not put down from beginning to end!…I have to compliment Ms. Devlin on her writing prowess. She roped this reviewer with her playground of words, expertise of emotional perception, and exceptional writing ability.”

Katelyn Carter came to rural Texas to lick her wounds and start over after her failed marriage, but a sexy young cowboy seems determined to show her that love is still in the cards for this single librarian.

Sheriff’s deputy Daniel Bodine answers a 911 call to remove a rattlesnake from his new neighbor’s bedroom. What he finds is an embarrassed Katelyn, dressed in little more than her pretty pink blushes. One little omission later, and he’s working for the lady as her handyman.

Burned once by a man, Katelyn fights her growing attraction but finds Daniel more temptation than she can resist. When he shows her he knows his way around a woman’s body as well as he does a hammer and a saw, she takes a walk on the nasty side, vainly hoping she can keep her heart free of entanglement

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Daniel’s chest rose and his jaw tightened. His thumb pressed inside her mouth and she sucked it. With a sharply drawn breath, he bored his gaze into hers. “Tell me you don’t want me to kiss you, Katelyn.”

He’d said the words—torn away the flimsy barrier between unspoken yearning and surrender. She shook her head. “I…can’t.”

His hands cupped her face, gentle and reverent, as he leaned closer. His breath was sweet and brushed her lips first, prompting her to open her mouth. When his lips slid over hers, he murmured and closed his eyes.

Now, Katelyn had shared many kisses in her life. But Daniel’s tasted sweeter, made her feel cherished, even beautiful. His fingers threaded through her hair and he pulled her head closer for a deeper joining.

MIK-7 Countdown: Silver Bullet
Monday, November 9th, 2009

* Yesterday’s winner will be announced at the bottom of this posting!
* Comment today to win a download of SILVER BULLET.
* All countdown entries qualify you to win a copy of
KNIGHT OF MY DREAMS the night before it releases!

Quick NaNoWriMo update: I hit 18,781 words yesterday! And I wrote the funniest scene I have in a long time. Ask me about it sometime—it has to do with a stripper and a set of pasties…

The sixth book in the series, Silver Bullet, released in March 2006 and introduces Max’s werewolf clan and his brother, Alec Weir. If you thought Max had a thing for vamps, just wait until you meet little brother. Be warned! This excerpt may make it seem like the sex isn’t truly consensual, but this couple has a history, and Alec understands her better than you may think, at first.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

From Fallen Angels Reviews: ”…You will be shocked, surprised, and crying before you get to the last page.”

From Romance Junkies: “…A paranormal experience reader’s won’t soon forget, with very sensual characters and a terrific plot…”

After the death of one of the members of the super-secret police unit aligned with the Vampire Council in southern Florida, werewolf Max Weir becomes the chief suspect. Sure a greater villain has used a were-clan’s hatred of vamps to strike against the unit, Max travels to the mountains of North Carolina to seek the truth and hopefully renew the centuries-old truce between the weres and vampires.

Alec Weir has a problem on his hands. The new sheriff on Dark Mountain must walk a fine line between upholding were-clan laws and saving his vamp-loving brother from certain death. Alec must find the traitor in the clan responsible for the attack on the vampires or watch his brother die. If that wasn’t enough, his chosen mate, Stasia McGwyre, seems to still hold a candle for Max.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Note for Readers: You must be of legal age in your country of origin to read this excerpt.

With his hackles rising, Alec eyed his older brother, barely sparing a glance for the vampire at his side.

Is he so arrogant he thinks I won’t kill Garcia where he stands? Yeah, he knew who the vamp was—he’d shared a beer or two back in the days before Joe joined the fanged brotherhood. Before he’d become “the enemy”. But he could dust the bastard later. Instead, he narrowed his gaze at Max.

What was Max thinking, entering were territory when he’d aligned himself with the other camp? He’d fucked a vamp female and not by accident. He decided to cut him where it hurt. “Put the vamp in the pit,” he growled, looking over Max’s shoulder to his deputies.

“Back off!” Max glared behind him, halting the deputies, then shared a charged glance with his buddy.

That little look riled Alec even more. Max had chosen an enemy over family. “You aren’t in charge here,” he said, his voice low and lethal.

Max’s eyebrows lowered, and his shoulders bunched. “This isn’t about us. This isn’t about The Wars either. It’s bigger, little brother. We’ve come to ask your help.”

MIK-7 Countdown: Uncovering Navarro
Sunday, November 8th, 2009

* Friday’s winner will be announced at the bottom of this posting!
* Comment today to win a download of UNCOVERING NAVARRO.
* All countdown entries qualify you to win a copy of
KNIGHT OF MY DREAMS the night before it releases!

Quick NaNoWriMo update: I hit 16156 words on Friday!

The Maumelle conference yesterday was fun, and I met some interesting people. One was a ghosthunter, so guess what I’ve got on my mind? Field trip! Here’s his website if you want to take a look: The Spirit Seekers

The fifth book in the series, Uncovering Navarro, released in April 2005 and picks up with the Master Vampire Navarro and his adventure with a pesky reporter.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

From Vampire-Erotica.net: “…UNCOVERING NAVARRO is an action packed, fast paced, scorching, erotic thriller. With delicious love scenes, wry humor and non-stop thrills, UNCOVERING NAVARRO is a guaranteed page turner that’ll delight the reader.”

From Coffee Time Romance: ”…I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys stories of vampires and things that go bump in the night. UNCOVERING NAVARRO is an extraordinary read by an extraordinary author.”

Sidney Coffey, Seattle ’s “News at Nine” girl, uncovers the scoop of a lifetime and her ticket into “serious journalism”. The only problem is — without proof, no one’s going to believe the victims of recent gang killings are in fact “undead” and vampires!

With her gut telling her there’s an even bigger story lurking beneath the surface, she decides to beard a reclusive vampire master in his den for an interview. But meeting the master only complicates things. For a woman with a voracious sexual appetite, the tall, dark and gloomy vamp proves an irresistible challenge.

When a reporter trespasses on his estate, Navarro is at first amused, then annoyed that the little baggage is close to putting together the pieces of a dangerous plot involving an old enemy and a group of murdered geneticists. To keep her safe, Navarro issues an invitation he won’t let her refuse.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Note for Readers: You must be of legal age in your country of origin to read this excerpt.

“I can’t stay here,” Sidney sputtered, dismayed at his suggestion.

“But you will.” Navarro took another lazy sip of brandy.

He sat so calm she wanted to kick him in the shins. “I will not!”

“As I said before, I am investigating this new…circumstance.” However nonchalant his actions were, his expression remained watchful—his gaze piercing. “I want no interference from you.”

Sidney shivered, and her nipples tightened. Nothing like a little threat of danger to remind her how vulnerable she really was—and just how much she liked that feeling. Especially in the presence of a drop-dead gorgeous man.

“Until I’ve satisfied my curiosity, you will remain my guest.” His gaze dipped to her chest and his nostrils flared.

What had that look meant? Could he smell her arousal? She pushed off the chair, afraid she’d leave a puddle of evidence if she sat a moment longer. “We’ll just see about that,” she said, not trying to disguise her snarl. She bent to scoop up her jeans.

A booted foot stepped on a pant leg, and Sidney’s heart lurched. When had he moved? How had he gotten to her side so fast? She dropped the denims and jerked upward. He stood so close her breasts dragged along his white shirt.
