UPDATE: The winner is…Laura!

BabyItsYou_600

I picked the image. My sister played with it to fit all the text bits in there. When it’s up on Amazon, it will have a little white Kindle World button in the bottom left. This book will be #5 in my Uncharted SEALs series. Do you like it? Does he look ready for anything? Sis tried to cover up his hands in her first versions of the cover. Can you imagine that?!

I’m keeping that image front and center as I write the story. Yeah, I’m in chapter one at the moment. Baby, It’s You has to be up in Kindle Worlds by the 20th for our January 26th release date. I’m cutting it a little close. Since I have to write fast, I decided to stay closer to my comfort zone with this one. Most of the story will take place on a Texas ranch as my SEAL woos the woman he “done wrong.” 🙂

I think his name is Carter Vance. I’ve been calling him that for the first few pages. I’m not sure where the name came from, but when the heroine thought about him, that was the name she plucked for me to use. Does he look like a Carter?

So, my question today, should you decide to play, is whether a book cover matters to you. And what do you think of this one? If I placed a plain brown wrapper on my story, would you buy it? Or do you get sucked in by a sexy man or woman staring back at you? Answer for a chance to win a free copy of one of the prequel books to Baby, It’s You in the Uncharted SEALs series.

Brotherhood Protectors Series Book #1

Former SEAL and shining Hollywood starlet struggle against their burgeoning desire while trying to stay alive in the crosshairs of a murderous stalker.

Hank “Montana” Patterson never thought his call to duty would force him to leave his band of brothers in the Navy SEALs to return to the family ranch in the foothills of Montana’s Crazy Mountains. News that his father was shot, sends him rushing home to take over the reins of the Bear Creek Ranch. His forever belligerent father refuses his help, insisting Hank find the person who shot him. What Hank learns is the bullet was meant for the neighboring ranch owner, a Hollywood celebrity, a beautiful actress who once stole Hank’s heart.
Hometown girl, now a Hollywood temptress, Sadie McClain shot to fame and fortune on the big screen, earning her star on the walk of fame and a stalker who won’t back off. Escaping to her ranch in Montana, Sadie hopes to avoid her stalker, only to be hunted there as well. In need of a bodyguard with combat skills, Sadie hires her old flame, Hank to do the job.

Together they struggle to overcome their rekindled desire while fighting to stay alive in the crosshairs of a madman.

Excerpt:

His gut twisting, his nerves stretched, Montana clenched his weapon, holding it at the ready as he continued forward. If they had any chance of rescuing the aid worker, it had to be soon. ISIS rebels had a habit of torturing and killing anyone they could use as an example, rather than hanging on to them. Prisoners only slowed the attack and hampered their determination to take everything in their paths.

The tunnel opened into the bowels of what appeared to be a warehouse.

“I feel like we’re on a wild goose chase,” Swede muttered.

“And the goose is leading us to the slaughter. Not the other way around,” Irish concurred.

They climbed a set of stairs to a huge, empty room.

“Damn,” Swede said and bent to a dark lump on the ground.

Nacho released a string of profanity in Spanish.

“We’ve found the aid worker.”

What Montana had assumed was a pile of rags, was in fact a woman, her clothes torn, her body ravaged, her face battered. Her eyes were wide open, staring up at the ceiling.

Swede knelt beside her and touched his fingers to the base of her throat.

Montana’s stomach roiled at the sight of the woman’s damaged body. He could have told Swede she was already dead. What a waste of life. And for what? “We need to get out of here.”

The sound of footsteps made Montana glance up. A man stood on a catwalk twenty feet above them. He shouted something in Pashtu, ending in Allah, pulled the pin on a grenade and tossed it into the middle of the team.

“Fuck!” Montana yanked his weapon around and shot the man. He fell to the ground, but killing him was a little too late.

The grenade rolled toward Swede, still crouched beside the woman’s body.

“Get down!” Lt. Mike shouted, and then threw himself over the grenade.

Montana shouted, “No!” as the grenade exploded beneath their leader.

The force of the concussion reverberated throughout the room, knocking Montana to the ground. His last thoughts were of the home and the girl he’d once loved.

Need your help finding a title… (Contest)
Saturday, November 14th, 2015

Remember that poll I ran for your favorite pick from among ideas y’all pitched to me for a story I’ll have in n upcoming cowboy collection? That title will also be the next story I have in the Cowboys on the Edge series. One of your top preferences was Cowboy Law. I liked that. But of course, then I played with variations, and this one struck me: Cain’s Law. So now I have a title, the hero’s name, and soon a cover. Do you like this for the image I want to use? He’s a little skinny (maybe my cover artist can stretch him a bit!), but I love the blue, love his pretty face, and all the shadow. So thanks so much for helping me “find” that title! Now, I have to think up a story to go with the title and the picture…

I need your help again.

I must write the next story in my Uncharted SEALs series. Here are the titles I have so far:

1sm

As usual, I have no idea what the next story will be about. But I need another provocative title. Each of these titles inspired my story. Let’s brainstorm. Throw out any idea you have. There’s no such thing as a dumb idea in brainstorming, because your suggestion might spawn an idea in someone else’s imagination. That’s how brainstorming works.

Submit your idea(s) for a chance to win a free download of either
Controlled Burn from my Cowboys on the Edge series,
or one of the first three books in the Uncharted SEALs series.

Lindsay McKenna: Tangled Pursuit, a Character Interview

CHARACTER INTERVIEW, Part 1:  US Navy SEAL Chief Wyatt Lockwood

en2Capture

There’s a wild filly who keeps avoid’n my lasso here at Bagram Army Base.  Captain Tal Culver, US Marine Corps, stole my heart from the first time I accidentally ran into her at Ops.  My SEAL team and I were coming in off an Op.  I didn’t know her at that time, but she was a Marine sniper and was there with her spotter, filling out paperwork at the Ops desk.  She had greasepaint all over her face and hands.  When I saw her, I realized instantly she wasn’t a man. Not because of her desert cammos and Kevlar vest she was wearing, either.  I guess my heart meter detected she was female, was all I can surmise.

Anyway, it was as if we both became aware of one other at the same instant.  I wore greasepaint, my cammo clothes filthy dirty and smelling to high heaven after six days out on a mission.

Our eyes met and held.  I felt such a bolt of lightning surge through me,  that it caught me completely by surprise.  I was stunned in place.  That had never happened before when I would meet a woman I was drawn to.  It was her spring green colored eyes, slightly tilted, that gave her an incredibly beautiful, exotic look.  Never mind she had greasepaint on instead of make-up.  I’d anchored to the spot and my mouth dropped open.  Her black hair was caught in a ponytail that hung between her shoulder blades, mostly hidden beneath the Kevlar vest she wore.

My whole body felt like it was on fire and I knew right then and there, I wanted this warrior woman.  There was nothing weak about her from the blazing look of disdain she gave me as I stood there, nonplussed.  Sheer, unadulterated confidence poured off her.  I saw her sniper rifle in a bag leaning up against the Ops desk.  I didn’t know the Marine Corps had ANY female snipers in their ranks, much less at Bagram.  How the hell did SHE escape my radar?  I think at that point I snapped my mouth closed, still holding her “don’t screw with me” glare in my direction.

She turned away, continuing to fill out the report at the desk, ignoring the hell out of me.  Well!  Women just did NOT ignore me.  Not ever.  I had little girls in kindergarten following me around, and then in grade school, high school and then, in the Navy.  I never wanted for a woman.  My team called me a babe magnet.  Yeah, that was pretty accurate.  Women have always been drawn to me.

But not THIS woman.  She was six feet tall, hard and lean bodied, and probably weighed around a hundred sixty pounds.  You couldn’t tell much beneath all the mannish gear she wore.   But my imagination filled in all those unknown blank spots beneath her Kevlar vest, two drop holsters on each thigh, a Ka-Bar knife wrapped around her right lower leg, the Camelback and radio equipment in her ear and attached to her left epaulet of her dirt stained blouse.

I WANTED her.  ALL of her.  She was MINE.  I made it my sole purpose in life to lasso this beautiful, proud and confident warrior into my bed.  Come hell or high water.

The disdainful look she gave me after she handed in her report to the Ops officer behind the desk was enough to make any man feel like a crispy critter torched in the flames of her narrow-eyed look.  And it looked like it would take hell and high water to convince her I was the ONE.

Texans don’t run from a fight; they run toward it.  And I knew in that nanosecond that Captain Tal Culver was going to be my ultimate challenge.  She threw down an invisible gauntlet between us as we stood there six feet apart, staring one another down like two alpha wolves checking the other out.  I wonder if she knew I was from Texas?   Then she’d realize the utter futility of saying ‘no’ and turning me down.  At that moment I gave her a cocky grin, letting her know I’d picked up that silent challenge.  She was mine. She just didn’t know it yet….

Delilah’s October Wrap-up and What’s Coming in November
Monday, November 2nd, 2015

I can hardly believe its already November! I blinked and October was gone. So much happened. And can I remember it? It’s a blur, except, of course, for Halloween, because, hey, I have the pictures.

Halloween5

Yes, these are the little ones I talk about sometimes here.

But the rest? I wrote a novella, wrote a short story, edited four stories for others, revised one of my own. Below, you’ll see the books I published in October—just in case you missed one! I also participated in our local artists’ tour, which had me busy making/painting things and ate three days of my life as I manned my table with my dd.

This month? Well, for one, it’s NaNoWriMo! Whee! I committed to writing 50,000 words this month—that’s 1677 words a day. Doesn’t sound like much when put that way, but with everything else happening, sometimes new pages come last. I currently have one editing job that needs to go out the door. Who knows what else will come my way. I have two of my own older stories that need revising and re-pubbing. I have at least two novella-length stories I have to write this month, plus I’d love to add a shorty. And there’s a family trip to Virginia…

Anyway, take a look at November’s releases too, including one coming tomorrow! All three are up for pre-order! Love SEALs, cowboys, and things that go bump in the night? You’re in for a treat!

And for any authors who might be interested, I have a two-week course beginning today: Rose’s World Building Workshop.

But meeting the master only complicates things. For a woman with a voracious sexual appetite, the tall, dark and gloomy vamp proves an irresistible challenge. When a reporter trespasses on his estate, Navarro is at first amused then annoyed that the little baggage is close to putting together the pieces of a dangerous plot involving an old enemy and a group of murdered geneticists. To keep her safe, Navarro issues an erotic invitation he won’t let her refuse.
Love, Lust and ZombiesLove, Lust and Zombies
Includes my heart-tugging story, “Still”.Let’s face it: zombies are hot, and baby, they’re getting hotter. Although not the most traditional of sex symbols, zombies are truly coming into their own, even landing on the silver screen in romantic roles, not to mention ambling and shambling across the pages of novels and television screens. Gone are those one-dimensional scary characters from George Romero’s grim and gruesome flick Night of the Living Dead. Zombies now have a lot more to offer to the non-zombie world. From the bestselling novel Pride and Prejudice and Zombies to the hit TV series The Walking Dead, zombies are taking over as a source of entertainment. So isn’t it about time they had their more…err… romantic and sexy sides showcased? Mitzi Szereto wrote the sex back into Pride and Prejudice and her new Love, Lust and Zombies will warm the coldest among us with stories so daring they can even raise the dead!
