UPDATE: The winner is…Janelle!
*~*~*

The family has been so wound up with things related to me that it’s nice that the focus is back on normal things. Today was Open House for the local schools. The 15-year-old and the 10-year-old are getting their schedules and school supplies. They’re meeting the new crop of teachers they have to endure (that’s the 15-year-old’s attitude—LOL).

In past years, the 10-year-old liked for me to make her lunch every day because I’d make it interesting. She loved pulling out hummus and veggies, leftover curry from the previous night’s dinner, Indian lentil dishes she ate with naan bread or crackers, yoghurt, fruit, and all the creative things I could think of to make her lunch interesting for her. This year, she’s moving into middle school where they have choices, so she told me she might only need one of my special lunch bags a week. I guess it makes her feel more grown-up or something. I don’t know. I enjoyed spoiling her with good food. She’s not a baby anymore. 🙁

For a chance to win a $5 Amazon gift card, tell me if you enjoy or enjoyed this time of year, getting kids ready for another school year!

I was/am a sucker for school supplies. You can never have too many pens or too many notebooks. I still get that warm fuzzy feeling when this time of year comes around.

I don’t mind this time of year now since my kids are grown and don’t have to get ready for school.

I used to love it! I would purchase tons of extra supplies to donate and to give as teacher gifts.

In another lifetime, I did enjoy getting the kids, and myself, ready for school. That was a very long time ago. Even the one grandchild I can lay claim to has graduated. All it means for me now is, the tourists are going home! Less traffic. I do like that too.

Getting my kids ready for back to school wasn’t too bad. But I enjoy it more now that it’s my grandkids who are getting ready. I buy them each some new clothes to start the year off, sometimes a pair of sneakers. Every year I buy my granddaughter her new backpack. I’m glad I don’t have to supply all they need now…costs have gotten much higher & the school doesn’t supply as much as they did when my own kids were in school.

Except for making sure she has fall/winter clothes and outerwear, which we would have to do school or no school, we are lucky and don’t have to do anything. We live in a small school district that is currently well funded. All of the elementary kids have all their supplies given to them and hot lunch at school is free to all.

I find it exciting. A new year and new learning. When I was teaching I enjoyed it as well.

I don’t have any young ones that I have to personally get ready to start school, but I do enjoy my grandchildren’s first day of school pictures

We put Miki into school when she was 4 at CCCA (she calls it a cult) and she stayed there until 3rd grade. She was so bored she hated going to school. She begged to be homeschooled. I was still working but Hubby was home and he said no, if he said yes he was afraid of raising a dumb ass and her going to school would make her a smart ass. A joke between them. She was so picky with food, she made her own lunches. She would eat at school for a couple of the meals, but the majority..no. Thankfully, she finished school, went to college, and then on to Law School. For someone who hated school, she sure went long enough. Passed her bar on the first try and hired by a great firm in Rogers, AR. Okay, I will quit bragging. Keep those grand kids close and just no that you are the cool grandma!

I used to love it as a student, learning to be a teacher, and with my kids. There is a small spark, but kids are grown.

There’s definitely a feeling of anticipation this time of year, although my kids are a lot older now and mostly getting themselves ready for their years…
