Lazy housekeeping hacks… (Contest)

UPDATE: The winner is…Tamara!
*~*~*

I had a lightbulb moment tonight as I turned to face my lovely bed and began to pull away some of the pillows to make room for myself. I never pull away all the pillows. In fact, I leave the heaviest ones lined up beside me. I only take up 1/3 of my queen-size mattress, so why bother? I realized that other than the fact I’m too lazy to clear all the pillows before I climb under the covers, I also save a lot of energy remaking the bed in the morning, because…the heavier pillows hold down the coverlet, saving me from having to climb over the bed to complete pulling everything straight.

So, that’s my lazy housekeeping hack. For a chance to win a free short story, let me know yours!

BTW—that’s not my bed, although I LOVE the wood!

I’ve got 4 that I love that made a huge difference in the time it takes to do cleaning. First, I use a daily shower spray after each time I use the shower. You can buy one or make your own like I do. Living in the country with well water, this greatly helps. Now I only have to actually do a scrub down of the tiles every few months. Second, use Press ‘N Seal wrap to line the surfaces in your fridge. Cleaning the fridge is just something we never get around to doing but it’s a pain when you do. But now all I have to do is replace the lining and it’s good as new. Third, I’m sure you know this one, but fill a cup with a water and vinegar mix, cook for 5 minutes, then you just wipe it down. And last, I line the toaster oven crumb tray with aluminum foil. No more soaking and scrubbing or cleaning it often. When it gets bad you just pull it out and replace the foil.

My trick is to get a Roomba (or similar vacuum). That thing has really simplified keeping the rooms vacuumed between major cleanings.

I have a couple of hacks, but my favorite is the one for my bathroom shower. I use a squeegee after my shower on the glass and the walls to keep the softened water from leaving spots. I also clean the walls and glass with vinegar when the buildup finally shows up.

To clean my drains, I pour baking soda in first then pour vinegar and watch it bubble clean.
