Jennifer Kacey: Her Creed (Giveaway)
Friday, June 17th, 2016

UPDATE: The winner is Shirley Long!

* * * * *

Once upon a time someone told me a story idea about a Gladiator style fight club that I just HAD to write. I said no. For a year and a half. He just kept saying what a good idea it was and how I could call it Gladi-Rapers. Yes, you read that right. Gladi-Rapers. Politically correct and I parted ways a while ago. I LOVED the name cause it was so filthy, but writing a historical **gag** book was just not something I want anything to do with so I said no again because it’s historical. My guy blinked and said, “It’s not historical. It’s modern day. Like MMA meets a super dirty underground sex club.”

Mind. Blown.

Within 24 hours Gladi-Rapers was outlined and ready to be written and a complete secret because I didn’t want to say anything about it until it was done and wrapped up like a dirty little present. I couldn’t write it fast enough. I definitely let my kink flag fly high on this one. Can you say filthy ladies???

JK_Gladi-Rapters_ebook_600x900Once it was written I could think of anyone one else I wanted to edit this story but Delilah Devlin. She was wonderful and gracious to fit me into her already crazy schedule. So thankful!!

And I started work on the cover with the amazing Syneca Featherstone. She created one cover with my female Gladi-Raper on it and I loved it. LOVED it!! Then I sent everything to my formatter to get it ready to go. Yea! Until he pulled the break on it with a huge warning that Amazon would more than likely NEVER let my book see the light of day because of the title and the tag line about consent. DAMN YOU AMAZON!!

So I changed the title to Her Creed, the series name to The Cage, the tagline and the cover and WHAMMO! I had something amazing that depicted the story perfectly and I couldn’t be happier with the finished product.

But you see I have a problem. I had a handful of eval print books made with the other cover so I was hoping somebody might want a copy to help me out. You know. Help me clean them out of my office. So the following bit of awesome is up for giveaway for the next couple days. And if I get a large enough response I’ll give away two prize packages to two different winners. The first prize pack has a print book, swag, a bag of dicks CAUSE WHO DOESN”T WANT A BAG OF DICKS and a dick bowl to put your bag of dicks in. WHERE ELSE WOULD YOU PUT THEM???? And I have an amazing bag from the Wild Wicked Weekend 2016. All of the signing authors are on there and the male hosts have all signed the back. So I need to find the goodies a good home. Want to help me out?? (Please note no one was harmed in collecting the bag of dicks, and I only have one bag, so comment early!!!)

Fighters take the ultimate prize for victory…

Underage KC snuck into the underground fight club called The Cage. But it was no ordinary fight club. The participants didn’t battle for titles or a useless belt to collect dust. The men and women brawled for only one thing. To be the victor and take the spoils of war they’d earned with their blood, sweat and tears. Not for money or jewels. They fought for the right to take the loser in any way—and any hole—of their choosing.

But KC was discovered by one of the bouncers and taken to a room with no way out. To the office of the owner, Creed, who held more than just her fate in his hands…

He’d seen hundreds of warriors find their way to his door with visions of grandeur and conquest. But it took a girl not yet a woman to remind him why he worked so tirelessly day in and day out. Her eyes. They would haunt him long after he threw her out of his arena and told her never to return.

Years later, they meet again, and KC is ready to take her place amongst his fighters. Creed wants nothing to do with the woman she’s become, but their fate has an interesting way of setting things right.

Consent has never seen this kind of fight club…

Decadently Yours,
Jennifer Kacey

Paige Tyler: To Love a Wolf (Free Read)
Thursday, June 16th, 2016

I have a new release in my SWAT Series called TO LOVE A WOLF and I’m so excited! Because this is Cooper’s story!

I know, I always say I don’t have a favorite hero in my books, but I’d be lying if I didn’t say SWAT officer/werewolf Landry Cooper doesn’t hold a special place in my heart. Because Cooper is inspired by my hubby!

Like Cooper, Hubby is former Army EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal— twenty years), and has a lot of the same personality quirks as Cooper. He can be a bit snarky, seems to have a somewhat laissez-faire attitude toward explosives, is steady when things get stressful, and is usually a calm sounding board for people who want to talk about their problems.

I guess it makes sense that when I started thinking about Cooper’s love interest, I patterned Everly after me. She’s certainly in line with the kick- butt heroines I’ve portrayed in my other books, and when those she loves are in danger, she can be fierce in her own way. But Everly also has a soft side. Like me, she draws and paints. She also seems to have a thing for doing nude figure studies. That was my favorite class in art school too, by the way. Everly has a very boho style, she’s emotional, and is quick to give her heart, which means she can fall for a guy really fast (like I did with Hubby!). In addition to all that, she’s somewhat of a free spirit, just like me.

For readers who know my hubby and me well, I hope you see a bit of us in Cooper and Everly. And for readers who don’t know us, I hope I gave you a glimpse!

ptTo Love a Wolf

HE’S FOUND THE ONE…

SWAT officer Landry Cooper is certain Everly Danu is The One. The problem is, she has no idea what Cooper really is. And as much as he wants to trust her, he’s not sure he can share his deepest secret…

BUT CAN HE KEEP HER?

When Everly’s family discovers Cooper’s a werewolf, her brothers will do anything to keep them apart-they’ll kill him if they have to. Everly is falling hard for the ridiculously handsome SWAT officer, and she’s not about to let her brothers tell her who she can love… Until Cooper’s secret is exposed and she discovers the man she thought she knew is a monster in disguise.

Meet Sharon Hamilton’s Newest Bachelor!

Band of Bachelors: Alex by New York Times Bestselling Author Sharon Hamilton is now on sale!

Adrenaline junkie and Navy SEAL Alex Kowicki is one of four bachelor SEALs trying to navigate his successful military career while achieving his goals as a first class connoisseur of beautiful women. He isn’t ready to jump back into anything but his free falls, HALO drops or his missions overseas. He trusts his buddies to fix him up with another blind date that won’t be as dangerous as his last ones.

But Sydney Robinson has other plans. A beach volleyball player who can spike better than most men, she knows how to execute a series of events that include stalking the handsome SEAL all the way to Sonoma County, capturing him in a winery and delivering his carcass to her bed for keeps. Along the way, the two of them fight a home-grown terrorist cell in a duel that might cost one of them their lives.

This is Book 2 of Sharon’s Band of Bachelors series and was preceded by Band of Bachelors: Lucas (Book 1). Sharon’s bestselling SEAL books include the following series about the fictional SEAL Team 3: SEAL Brotherhood, Bad Boys of SEAL Team 3, Band of Bachelors, True Blue SEALs, and Nashville SEALs.

And now a Special Excerpt from BAND OF BACHELORS: ALEX…

shSharonHamilton_Alex_HRShe hesitated. He was good at brushing people off. Regardless of their world-class evening and morning, he could separate that. He could walk away. Her heart fluttered slightly as she realized perhaps she could not. Or just didn’t want to.

“So what do you want to know?”

“Who are you, Sydney?”

And boy was that the right question! Not who are you dating, who do you hang around, what do you do all day? It was usually the question that came up after the second or third date, just before she was about to exit stage right.

Her answer was measured, and well practiced.

“I want more out of life than life’s given me so far, but I’m not complaining. I just want more of it. I want the juice of life, not to live life. I’m looking to get a good partner and travel the world playing volleyball until my knees ache and my back or shoulder gives out. And after volleyball? Who knows what I can do at eighty?” She gave him the smile she’d given so many other dumbstruck men over the few years since she’d been dating. It was always the same. It also usually got same reaction.

But this time, she saw something ignite inside Alex. The backdrop of lonely sea gull cries, the salty gentle breeze and the sounds of metal clanging as work began late at the docks, only enhanced the excitement brewing in her belly. She was struck with the beauty and power of something maybe dangerous about this man. And also something so beautiful, her eyes watered.

Jodi Redford: Report For Booty (Contest)
Monday, June 13th, 2016

What’s your fantasy? As an erotic romance author, I’m a bit obsessed with that particular question, and it tends to be a core component of my stories. Some of the best—AKA: interesting—times I’ve had doing research for my books involved delving into the land of fetishes. There’s a kink for just about anything you can imagine. Or don’t want to imagine, in some cases. *side-eye to the rubber flounder paddle on the clown fetish site* I’ve used my fair share of fantasy scenarios in my stories. Bondage, spanking, body painting, exhibition, voyeurism, just to name a few. Right now I’m writing the newest book for my Kinky Chronicles series and the heroine is a phone sex operator. It’s been an eye-opening experience “living” in her world and discovering some of the kinks her clients are into. Plus it allows me to fulfill my lifelong dream of writing a unicorn sex scene. It’s happening, folks. The end is nigh. Prepare to never look at Rainbow Brite the same way again. But I digress…

Sometimes the fantasy involves a human character, with nary a hoof or horn in sight. Although there is still plenty of horniness. *insert groan at lame joke attempt* In another Kinky Chronicles story, Report For Booty, the heroine has always had a yen for G.I. Joe. So naturally sexy things happen when she meets the two retired Army Ranger hunks next door. There might even be a box of vibrators involved. Sadly, none of them are named Bumble Hooves the Unicorn or Virgil the Drippy Dragon. Those will be making a special appearance in another book. >.>

If you’re feeling particularly brave, tell me what your fantasy is. Or what fantasy/ kink scenario you’d like to read in a book. One random commenter will win a digital copy from my backlist. Entry is open to all and winner will be chosen on Friday, June 17th.

Mason Gamble and Nash Vincent are pros at making people sweat. As former Army Rangers who run the toughest, ball-busting fitness boot camp in Michigan, they take great pride in that fact. But thanks to the knockout brunette house sitting next door, suddenly they’re the ones experiencing excess perspiration. Fortunately, the perfect opportunity to be neighborly presents itself courtesy of a package delivery snafu.

Regan Wallace has trust issues. Specifically, trusting that her best friend won’t make good on her threat to send a Strip-O-Gram for Regan’s birthday. Is it any wonder she’d jump to the wrong conclusion when two gorgeous, camo-garbed hunks land on her front doorstep? Oops. The crazy part? They don’t seem the least bit scandalized or offended by her boneheaded blunder. Judging by the sinful heat in their eyes, they’re all too happy to provide her with a little two-on-one dirty dancing. For a woman recovering from a bad breakup, fielding the interest of two sex-on-a-stick men is both surreal and exhilarating. Indulging in a three-way fling? Completely out of her comfort zone. But with her stay limited to a week, some no-strings-attached sex might be precisely what she needs to get her confidence back in stride.

None of them are prepared for the consequences of a sexy fling feeling like so much more. As Regan’s stay draws closer to an end, Mason and Nash realize there’s no way in hell they’re letting the perfect woman slip through their fingers. And when it comes to fighting for her love, there are no fitter warriors for the ultimate battle to her heart.

Claire Davon: Fire Danger (Contest)
Sunday, June 12th, 2016

Hi all and welcome to my blog takeover. Many thanks to Delilah Devlin for allowing me and my characters to invade her website.

My name is Claire Davon and I love to write romance, primarily paranormal and contemporary. Starting from a young age I always loved to read the happy ending romances, which in my day were the short Harlequin novels. There was a store at the end of my trolley line in Brookline, Massachusetts that used to stock the slim 180 page Harlequins on a carousel outside for 25 cents a book. I read lord knows how many before I discovered the saucier versions in Rosemary Rogers and the like. I wrote for a lot of years before giving up after being shot down by Harlequin (and I thought it would be so easy) and putting away my pen for a time.

Fast forward several years to more recent years when my stories simply wouldn’t let me alone and I went back to writing. I am proud to say that on June 21st my paranormal romance novel Fire Danger, the first in the Elementals’ Challenge series, is being released by Samhain Publishing. This novel is truly a labor of love. It started ten years ago when I had this idea about four immortal Elementals who were once human trying to save the world. It evolved to what it is today with the basic premise intact. This is the first of five books with each book having a happily ever after. What is romance without that promise of bliss (with a whole lot of spice)? These Elementals have unique powers specific to their station and have to save the world one Challenge at a time, all while facing the most baffling mystery of all—the opposite sex!

cdFire Danger Samhain Cover

All her life, a faint memory of her parents and fire has glowed at the back of Rachel Quinn’s mind. With her parents long dead, there is no one to clarify what it means.

When a gorgeous winged man rescues her from a pack of werewolves, something flares to life inside Rachel. Suddenly she can see the paranormal world around her, a world unseen by mortals. And far more complicated.

Here is an excerpt:

“You’re not serious. Elementals are supposed to save the world.”

Phoenix squared his shoulders and shook his head. His mind was blocked from her, and she had no idea what he was thinking.

“It’s unimportant. What is important is finding out the truth about you.”

The stiffness of his body told her this was not the time to pursue this line of questioning. Unsure whether she should believe him, Rachel filed the comment away for future attention. Then the memory of the car accident drew her back. “Why don’t I remember? Why don’t I know?”

He turned to look at her and his big body almost filled the window, blocking the view.

“Why don’t I have wings if I’m what I saw in that vision? Why don’t I have more…power?” Her body heated again, and part of her wanted to be that winged  creature with the power of fire at her command. She yearned for it, like it was a part of her she hadn’t known was missing until this moment.

Phoenix shrugged, his shoulders flexing. “There was something there, interfering, maybe protecting. I’m not sure. As to your wings, not all Ifrit have them.”

“Shouldn’t I look more…different?”

Another shrug.

Heat warmed her face as her temper started to fray. The visions Phoenix had teased from her mind made her feel off-balance, like a wobbling top. She dashed across the room to him, her face heating with anger. “I am so confused.”

Rachel did the only thing she could think of. She kissed him.

Phoenix reacted, his arms immediately closing around her. His tongue sought hers, probing, demanding a response, which she gave, meeting his desire with a hot, burning need of her own. It flared like fire between them, passion that came to life instantly.

He broke off the kiss only to nibble on her ear. His breath was warm, and she shuddered with wanting him. She had to have him. She was projecting desire and she didn’t care.

He chuckled. “Come, Rachel. I want you so much. This Phoenix is hungry.” His hips thrust against hers, leaving her no doubt of his fierce arousal.

“Yes. Now. Now.”

“Hungry Ifrit too.” His laugh was fierce and possessive, tinged with hunger. Phoenix lifted her and kissed her. His lips moved over hers until she let out a breath and opened her lips to his.

With Phoenix she was a queen. All the pent-up passion inside her could finally be expressed without fear. But her desire, her needs, were so intense she thought maybe even an immortal Phoenix couldn’t deal with it.

“I can deal with it, Rachel. Give me everything. I need all you have. I have to have it,” he said on a fervent whisper.

“Aleric.” She leaned against him. “What I feel, it scares me.”

He gathered her body into his arms, pulling her legs around his waist, and started kissing her neck. “It should scare you. I should scare you.”

As a change of pace, I have a sweet fantasy novella that draws from the Elementals world but with characters completely outside of the four main characters in that story arc. This story focuses on a Spanish water woman and the African two-horned mythical beast who needs her help. The story, titled Water Woman was included in Roane Publishing’s “Masked Hearts” anthology released on May 21st, 2016.

Here is an excerpt:

maskedWalking to the front door, she opened it. Concentrating, Isidora bade the lock on the outside gate to release and swing open. When it did so the intruders plunged through, their unshaved faces split with smiles at this unexpected piece of good luck.

Their delight turned to frowns when they saw the woman standing in the doorway. She knew she was not imposing to the untrained eye. All Alojas were small women. Their power did not come from height or strength of their human bodies. It came from within and from the ability to command water.

Hoping that Kimoni had stayed behind to protect his grandfather, Isidora smiled at her intruders.

“Looking for me, tontos?

The men looked at each other. They appeared to be common street thugs, hired to find a brute force way into her place. Her opponent had underestimated her.

“You are Isidora Marin?” the bigger one asked, moving toward her. Isidora smiled thinly and nodded.

“You have been sent on a fool’s errand,” she said. “Turn around and leave now and no harm will come to you.” Yet. Nobody could try to break into her home and not pay a price. That would come later. Let them think they could walk away now.

The other man grinned, his smile missing a tooth. Poor souls had no idea what they were getting into.

“Come with us and no harm will come to you, bruja,” he countered.

Witch. Well, they knew who she was. That made them twice the fools to come here.

“Why are you here?” she asked. “What do you want of me?”

The bigger man shrugged. “We weren’t paid to ask questions. Just to get in. Come with us and we get a bonus.”

In the distance she heard pounding hooves. They were loud in the quiet early morning of the new day. At this hour the only thing stirring were night creatures, criminals and Kimoni. She could handle these men but her senses stirred at the idea that he was galloping to her rescue. Were the other men following him? She was sure of it. She hoped they did not find his grandfather but it was too late to worry about these things. He was coming. No other horse would be on the street now.

Kimoni, mane flying and eyes wild, plunged through the open door and pivoted to a halt, his hindquarters spinning as he stopped between her and the would-be thieves. Flanks heaving, he snorted, his body across the path of the others. He pawed at the ground with one hoof and lowered his smaller nose horn to the men.

Taryn Blackthorne: High Tide at Harvest Moon
Friday, June 10th, 2016

So High Tide at Harvest Moon is set in the valley I grew up in. I figured it would be a perfect place, given that it has tons of ghost stories, love stories, war stories…you get the picture. One of my first steps was to interview the characters. Here’s a snippet of my hero’s interview. I hope you enjoy!

Interview with Kerr MacDonald

How long have you been a werewolf?

Umm, I was born in 1840, so…

See, that’s the thing. This whole biting nonsense. Don’t get me wrong, I like a love nip as much as the next wolf, but it ain’t gonna make you grow fur and howl. I’d like to find the Unaware that started that whole business.

Are there many others like you?

What, I’m not pretty enough for you?

Do you enjoy being a werewolf?

*growls*

Next question.

How do you feel about humans?

Unawares, especially if they are as sexy as you? I get along just fine, sweet thing.

Hunters, as long as they keep the Weltanschauung, er, to the code, got no issue with.

Skinners? Let’s just say we haven’t seen any in the Bay of Fundy for a loooong time.

Excerpt

“Lexi. Lexi, wake up.” Rough hands shook her awake. Snapped on her light. Lexi clawed at the hands, flipped over in a hurry, pulled away from whoever was in her room.

“Shh, it’s OK. It’s Kerr. Lexi. I need you to put on some clothes and come with me. Now.” Kerr sat on the edge of her bed, a pair of jeans and a shirt in one hand, his other on her blanketed legs. He was patting her through her covers absently. He looked around the room and she had a wild thought he might see her gifts before they were ready until she realized she’d tucked them under her bed.

Lexi rubbed at her eyes. “I thought you weren’t going to push me to meet your Alpha.”

“I’m not. This is something else. Please?” No jokes. Not a smirk in sight. Nothing but deadly seriousness in his gaze.

Lexi blinked. Had he just said please?

“Umm.”

“I need your help, Lexi. Please?”

That did it. She couldn’t very well say no now, could she? Not without seeming like an even bigger jack hole than she’d been earlier today.

“Where are we going?” She flipped back the blankets and held out her hands for the clothes. His eyes wandered down her frame and she felt her cheeks flush. “My eyes are up here, Kerr.”

“There’s a lot of you I’ve never seen down there, though.”

She frowned. “Was that a comment about my weight?”

“No.” His voice was thick, husky and he hadn’t hesitated in the slightest. He gave his head a sharp shake.

“Right,” he said aloud. But he didn’t hand her the clothes. He stared at her body and his eyes took on a yellow hue.

“Kerr?” She crossed her arms over her breasts and pulled her knees up. A frisson of something crawled up her spine. Not entirely unpleasant. Kerr’s breathing increased, as if he was fighting for control. That was never good. On instinct, she leaned forward and stroked his arm lightly.

“Kerr. I need Kerr, not the wolf.”

Kerr caught her fingers and brought them to his mouth. Nibbled at the tips, his eyes never leaving her face. “You’ve got me.” He glanced down at her hand in his and she wondered if he realized at the same time she did that she had touched him, not the other way around.

“I’m going to protect you, Lexi. Remember that.”

High Tide at Harvest Moon

tbCapture

She’s haunted. He’s lethal. Trust issues, anyone?

Finally, Lexi Coolen has a home. Or so she thinks. Bouncing around for over 10 years, she’s discovered she’s safest on her own. Shaking off the shadow of being a teen amongst werewolves has been tough, but she’s always managed. Until she met Kerr.

Kerr MacDonald messed up. Letting a rival pack’s pet human move into town without permission is bad for business. Fixing things should be easy, except he’s torn. Force her out or claim her as his own?

Faye Avalon: Beast Untamed
Thursday, June 9th, 2016

Thank you, Delilah, for hosting me today!

I’ve always been interested in the paranormal and love reading about it in both fiction and non-fiction, so it’s pretty strange that until recently I haven’t thought about writing it.

After a trip to Cornwall in the UK all that changed. Cornwall is awash with magical tales, ghost stories, and strange happenings. Its enigmatic landscape certainly lends itself to the perpetuation of myth, rumor and legend.

One such tale is that of the Cornish piskies (fairies or little people). It is said that a small boy was picking wild flowers outside his home. His mother saw him there, looked away, and when she looked back he was gone. The whole village joined in the search for the child, but he was nowhere to be seen. Three days later he was found sleeping in the very spot his mother had last seen him. The child wasn’t aware he had been missing. All he knew was that he was picking flowers and heard a bird singing so beautifully that he followed it into the woods. He said he came to a beautiful lake where millions of stars shone overhead. The stars morphed into piskies and they gave him honey and cakes to eat before singing him to sleep. He woke unaware that so much time had passed. He grew to be a happy and fortunate man, said to have been blessed by the Cornish piskies. A piskie charm is therefore said to bring good luck to its owner.

Then there’s the story of The Hurlers, a Bronze Age collection of stones on Bodmin Moor which are said to be the remains of a group of men who were caught playing the Celtic game of hurling on a Sunday. As punishment for their transgression they were turned to stone. Seems pretty harsh, doesn’t it? faThe Hurlers

Some believe that the famed Camelot was located hereabouts and Dozmary Pool to the north-west of the Moor is said to be the lake into which the dying King Arthur instructed the sword Excalibur be cast. Said to be bottomless and have a tunnel that leads to the sea, the pool is said to be the home of the Lady of the Lake who guards Excalibur. The romantic in me really loves that idea.

Bodmin Moor is an eerily enigmatic place, especially as dusk falls. There are stories that a wild panther-like creature roams the moor. There have been many sightings over the years, but only a few grainy images have been caught on film. Despite an official investigation in the mid 1990s, no real evidence was found to confirm that such a beast existed, but neither was there evidence that it didn’t. Sightings continue, as does fascination with the possibility of a Beast of Bodmin Moor.

A while back, we were driving across Bodmin Moor and, of course, I was thinking about the stories and reports of The Beast. It’s easy to imagine a cat-like creature pounding across the mysterious landscape, and my writer’s instincts kicked in. The ‘what-ifs’ began to formulate, and I latched on to the supernatural/paranormal aspects of the sightings which really fascinate me. Soon I had the makings of my first paranormal series, Beasts of Bodmin Moor, which features a pack of panther shape-shifters living in and around the small town of Bodmin.

With so much fodder for the imagination, I’m thinking Cornwall has given me enough inspiration for many paranormal romances in the future. Watch this space!

How about you? Do you have a fascination with the paranormal?

Beast Untamed
Book #3 Beasts of Bodmin Moor
available now from Samhain Publishing

To guard his woman, he must claim his mate.

Ex-special forces operative Nathan Quinn enjoys women, but he just doesn’t trust them. Thanks to a mother who abandoned him, he prefers no-strings relationships, and has no intention of ever marrying or mating with a fellow shifter.

He focuses his energy on building his security business until a human woman catches his eye—and firmly rejects his charm. Which only challenges him to work harder to break down her barriers.

Born of ambitious, emotionally cold parents, Erin Howard’s craving for attention led her down a slippery slope to an abusive relationship. Now on the run from her ex, she plans to lay low and stay away from possessive, dominating males. But who says she can’t enjoy a little hot sex without a shred of commitment?

Soon their attraction explodes into something so fierce, that Nathan feels the primal need to mark Erin as his. But his fallback plan—distance himself—creates the space for Erin’s past to drive the final, possibly fatal, wedge between them.

Product Warnings: Contains a sexy panther shifter with an attitude problem, a human female intent on playing things safe, and an anxious dog learning to co-exist with the local cats.

Excerpt:

Nerves fluttered in her belly, but Erin breathed them away. She was going to enjoy herself tonight. She was going to be normal, make conversation, have fun.

But when the door swung open in response to her knock, those nerves came flooding back with a vengeance. The man towered in the doorway, his dark and brooding good looks like something in a magazine devoted to warrior gods of times long ago.

“You must be Erin,” he said, the hint of a smile softening almost harsh features. “Come on in.”

He stepped back, and Erin was about to enter when Talia came down the hallway. “Great. You’re early. We can have a drink before we get going. You’ve met Caleb?”

Erin looked up at the man. Handsome, and built. No wonder Talia always had a satisfied smile on her face.

No sooner had she accepted Caleb’s outstretched hand than Talia reached out and all but pulled Erin into the house. “Come and meet everyone.”

Everyone?

Erin’s knees went wobbly, her stomach pitching in a way that had her evening snack threatening to revolt. Maybe she wasn’t ready for this after all. It was too soon. She needed time to adjust, to work out exactly who she was going to be, before she thrust herself into life again.

Talia had other ideas and guided her into a room off the hall. Stepping across the threshold, she heard Naomi’s laughter. Her new friend had her arms wrapped around the neck of a formidable-looking man who in turn had his arms wrapped around her.

“Break that up, you two,” Talia instructed. “Save it for your wedding night.”

“That’s days away yet,” Naomi complained, smiling up at the man who was obviously Tynan. “He can’t keep his hands off me for that long.”

“My female speaks the truth,” Tynan said. “Anyway the mating has already—”

“Ahem…” Talia loudly cleared her throat, and the couple looked over. “We have company.”

Erin had the distinct impression she’d interrupted something, and not just a heated embrace between an engaged couple. But the smiles that headed her way, and the companionable way Talia slid an arm around her waist, made her think she’d imagined it. She must be so on edge lately that she was seeing spooks where none existed.

“Come and meet Tynan,” Naomi said, grabbing her away from Talia. “Ty, this is Erin. She hasn’t been in Bodmin very long, and she works at the tea shop, remember?”

A look passed between the couple, and again Erin felt as if she was missing something.

But then Tynan smiled and held out his hand. “Good to meet you, Erin. Hope you’re ready for a raucous evening.” He slipped an arm around Naomi’s shoulder, and the simple gesture was filled with possessive intent. “According to my woman, you’re all going to party enough to set the moor alight.”

“Well, I…”

“Don’t listen to him,” Naomi said. “Tynan, take her coat. We’re having a drink here while we wait for a couple of the other girls to arrive. What’s your pleasure?”

“Lime and soda if you have it.” She smiled when Tynan helped her out of her coat.

“Forget that.” Talia ushered her onto the sofa. “No soft drinks allowed tonight. Unless you’re allergic or sworn off alcohol on religious grounds. No? So, what’ll it be?”

“White wine would be good.”

While Caleb went across to the drinks cabinet, Talia sat next to her on the sofa. “Love your dress.”

“Thanks.” Erin tugged the skirt of the simple navy shift down to her knees. “Naomi said I had to wear something good.”

“I said something sexy.” Naomi plunked herself on Erin’s other side and eyed Erin’s dress. “I would have preferred more of a cleavage,” she said in a hushed tone that only the girls could hear. “But I’m not complaining.”

Grateful, Erin took the drink Caleb handed her and took a healthy swig. Conversation turned to logistics regarding transport for the evening, with Tynan and Caleb sitting side by side on the opposite sofa. Good Lord, Erin thought, taking several surreptitious sips of her wine. The room positively hummed with masculine appeal. She couldn’t remember ever seeing two more intimidating men in her life, or two more attractive and virile, but while they seemed tough and formidable, she didn’t feel especially uneasy in their company.

It was apparent from the looks and smiles the men each shared with Talia and Naomi that there was a whole bucketload of love in the room. In their men’s presence, the women seemed relaxed and completely at ease with themselves. Erin wondered how that must feel, considering her own experience had only ever been one of fear and intimidation.

The sound of the front door closing and heavy footsteps pounding down the hallway brought Erin from her reverie before she could take a painful trip down memory lane.

If she’d thought the testosterone levels couldn’t rise any higher, she hadn’t been prepared for the man who stepped into the room. Built like a tank, his shoulders filled the doorway, while the heavy scowl pushed the first real fluttering of fear into her since she’d arrived.

“If you expect me to drive that piece of garbage, you could have at least washed it first.”

The deep timbre of his voice and the edge of vitriol in his tone caused Erin to slink down a little in the seat, but since his attack was aimed at Tynan, she tried to steady her breathing. Her heart hammered anyway, her mind scanning back to a time when a similar attack was aimed at her.

“You want me to fill that junk trap with gas for you? Then you’d better make it worth my while by getting on that bed and spreading your legs for me. Now.”

Oh God. Oh God.

“Are you okay?”

Erin glanced up into Talia’s concerned gaze. “Yes, fine. Sorry.”

“Don’t apologize. I’ll get a cloth.”

Erin looked down, surprised when she saw the damp patch on her dress. Bloody hell, her hand had shaken so much that she’d spilled her drink.

She looked up into the dark, steady gaze of the man who had just arrived. He eyed her with little interest, but her stomach jumped like a train.

“Here.” Talia mopped at Erin’s dress, then turned her glare on the man. “Why did you want to come in here and scare my guest, Nathan Quinn?”

“Didn’t know anyone else was here. Thought you females had left for the evening.”

“This is Erin,” Naomi said. “She’s just moved to the area.”

Another pointed exchange of looks, but Erin knew she was reading too much into everything right then. They must all think she was a bloody loony.

The man called Nathan turned his gaze to her and inclined his head.

She tried for a smile but wasn’t sure she made it. Her whole body was reacting as if to a threat, and she feared she was about to go into full panic mode.

“Well, let’s get this show on the road,” Naomi declared and stood. “I can hear the others arriving, which means we’ve got that serious partying to do. And you guys have some serious poker to play.”

She took Erin’s glass and handed it to Tynan, then kissed him full on the mouth. “That should keep you for a while. Enjoy your game.”

In response, Tynan put the glass down and hauled Naomi up against him. “That won’t keep me for five damn minutes. Come here.”

Erin felt she should turn away when the kiss morphed into the kind that required locked doors and darkened rooms.

“Don’t mind them,” Talia said drawing her into the hall where Caleb held out their coats. She turned to her husband. “You’re really sure you don’t mind driving us? We can get a cab if it’s easier, then you can drive to Truro with Ty and Nathan. That way you’ll get to enjoy a drink.”

“I said I’d take you. I don’t want you out of my sight any longer than necessary.”

The big man smiled down at her, his eyes gleaming. Talia rewarded him with a soft kiss, her palm resting lightly against his cheek.

While Caleb didn’t haul Talia against him to give her the same treatment Tynan was currently giving Naomi, Erin felt equally uncomfortable. The possessive look Caleb gave his wife made her feel like she should turn away from something intensely private and intimate.

Naomi came into the hall, flushed and pleased with herself. “Ready?”

Moments later, after brief introductions to the two women who had arrived, they were piling into Caleb’s SUV. From the backseat, Erin found herself glancing back to the house, hoping against hope she didn’t catch sight of Nathan again.

The man made her feel uneasy and anxious. They’d barely shared a glance, but he’d looked at her like he knew something nobody else did. She shuddered at the thought, remembering Naomi had told her that Tynan was his business partner, and they were security consultants. That meant he would know how to access official files, documents, people’s history.

At Naomi’s instruction beside her, Erin clipped on her seat belt and vowed to keep a very low profile where Nathan Quinn was concerned.
