UPDATE: The winner is…Mary Preston!

Tell me a story!

I bought this little brainstorming tool years ago at some writers’ conference. I’ve used it only twice—here! “Story Cubes” is (that looks wrong, but I promise it’s not) a brainstorming game. You roll the dice and whatever pictures appear face up are the ones you use to riff off a story.

Here’s the roll…

Do any of these symbols tell you anything? You can pick some or use all of them. Tell me a story, or even just a glimmer of an idea, for a chance to win a $5 Amazon gift card!

I see an adventure… a precious family jewel was stolen from a couple and they try to retrieve it by going after the bad guy… danger and a few surprises awaits them as they follow his trail.

I am so bad at this but here goes: A hungry Scottish pirate is very unhappy that his lunch pail full of beans went missing. His day got brighter when he saw an elephant.

I think treasure hunt. They are looking for the jewelry and the trail leads to a jungle only accessible by elephant. Some of their water has been poisoned. That’s all I got

I can see pirates trafficking in ivory, but they get their comeuppance when someone spills the beans.

Dora the Explorer was looking for elephants in the jungle when pirates fell out of the trees overhead. In the ensuing alarm, panic, and dismay, she picked up a jeweled necklace one of them dropped, and it went back into her backpack along with a handful of beans (possibly magic ones)…

A young boy gets the wrong idea when his father asks him to pack his ‘trunk’ for their move… leading to a very angry elephant! Told by his mother that you can appease elephants with peanuts, the boy then gets into even hotter water when he attempts to placate the pachyderm with the kind of styrofoam peanuts used for packing. Oh dear!
