National Play Your Ukelele Day! (Contest)
Thursday, February 2nd, 2023

UPDATE: The winner is…Cindy Bartolotta!
*~*~

Never heard of this holiday? Me neither, but with the kids at home due to ice storms, what better time to pull out the old ukelele and strum a few songs? The 18-year-old has several ukeleles hanging on her wall. I wish I could share the video I have of her singing while strumming her chords, but couldn’t figure out how to do that, so I’m sharing a picture of her playing in March 2020—yes, near the beginning of the lockdown. She had plenty of time to practice back then.

Then because I thought we should enjoy some actual ukelele playing, I found this: “Somewhere over the Rainbow” performed by Israel “IZ” KamakawiwoÊ»ole. It’s my favorite ukelele piece, and he sang it like an angel.

My question to you today, do you (or did you ever) play the ukelele? Or any musical instrument? Share for a chance to win a $5 Amazon gift card! I never played the ukelele, but I did play the piano, guitar, and clarinet. 🙂

I haven’t played any musical instruments really except for trying the guitar a few times (I was horrible at it, lol).

Nope! No Ukelele. I did have piano lessons when I was about six or seven, maybe eight. Anyway, a very, very, very long time ago. I would be lucky to find middle C these days. Also blinked a bit on the guitar for a while. Like many teenagers, I was actually in a band for a bit. But again, doubt I could find a G chord these days. Long time ago. But back to the Ukelele – Do you remember Tiny Tim and Tip Toe Through the Tulips? 😀

Recorder in school. I wanted to do others, but was allowed. I don’t know how to read music either yet.

One of my sisters took ukulele lessons as a adult. She said it was fun.

I had piano lessons as a child, but I don’t play.

Never played the ukulele. In high school I played the clarinet awhile but that didn’t go far.

No ukelele playing for me, but our local libraries will lend them out, like books 🙂

A decade of piano lessons though–I ought be a concert pianist, but alas, have not realized my parents’ hopes in that arena, LOL

Taught myself to play the guitar and piano. No one needs to be worried I’ll show up at Carnegie Hall, but it was enough to make me happy.
A side note, though. My mom played the piano–also self-taught. She died in 2009 and I have yet to play either instrument since then. I look at my piano and think maybe today, but then I tear up and walk passed it. Someday…
