Barbie Day Puzzle-Contest!
Tuesday, July 25th, 2023

UPDATE: The winner is…Beckie!
*~*~*

Ugh. Finding GREAT Barbie pictures I can legally use was hard!

Today’s the day we complete the “Barbenheimer” challenge! We saw Oppenheimer on Saturday, and today, we take the girls to see Barbie! We all have Barbie T-shirts and are doing the makeup and hair. We’re not going crazy, but we wanted to have some fun with it. So, we’ll do the movie then go to Red Lobster afterward for a meal before heading home. We’re all dying of excitement!

I have a question for you below, but I’ll share my favorite memory of growing up with Barbie. My parents didn’t have much money. Dad was an enlisted man in the Air Force, so money was always tight. But I had a Barbie, and mom found a Barbie wardrobe box in a consignment shop, and she filled it with clothing she made for my doll. She had little patterns and used remnants of fabrics to make me a dazzling array of clothes for my doll. I wish I still had it. My mom made me feel like the luckiest girl ever.

Puzzle!

For a chance to win a $5 Amazon gift card, tell me whether you had a Barbie growing up and share some special memory.

My grandmother made clothes for my Barbies I just wish I kept them instead of giving they away when I felt I was to old to play with them.

My Pop-Pop gave me my first Barbie one Christmas – then I got a Ken and at some point another Barbie. And an Aunt made me a wardrobe. I recently cleaned them all up to pass on to one of my great-nieces.

Did I have a Barbie? Absolutely–NOT! Did NOT want one. When I was growing up almost 70 years ago, I live a block from a creek, below woods that led up to a site that was a former Adena Indian burial mounds and spent my free time playing outside in the dirt. Toys of preference were bows made from tree branches and arrows with slate tips. I dug in the dirt and collected flint chips and commies, old clay marbles. Baseball cards too, but that’s another story for another day. Still have the commies and flint chips. Barbie? No way. I wanted a GI Joe!

I actually didn’t have a barbie. I was usually outside playing with my brother and cousins (riding bikes or exploring).

I had a few Barbie’s growing up. With lots of homemade clothes. I remember wasting so much time trying to find lost shoes .

My sister and I definitely wanted a Barbie, but we didn’t have one. Eventually we got a hand-me-down one whose hair had been cut off. We spent a lot of time making outfits involving kerchiefs and hats and other head-coverings and accessories, LOL!

I’ve never had a Barbie. Not something my mother would have thought of buying for me. Looking forward to the movie. Sounds like fun.

Nope. Didn’t have the Monet for a real Barbie. Had a knock-off. But I was good.

My first Barbie was just a head I found in a neighbors yard. I was 5 and it was 1967.

I did have a Barbie but didn’t really like them. My youngest daughter loved the doll but my middle daughter kept cutting off the leg. She has a prosthetic leg and wanted them like her.

I did finally have Barbies when a bit older about 8. Aunt Mary showed me her original 1st edition one from when she was little, and she first came out.

I had Barbies that my mom found at the second hand store. The owner Gus knew Mom was a single parent, this was 60 years ago, and would save all new bags that came in for her to go through first. He would also save for me and give me for my birthday and Christmas. I ended up with three cases of clothes, and had 4 Barbies, a Midge, A Scooter (little sister), and a couple of Kens. My younger cousins always wanted to play with them because we would use my glass China tea set with Ding Dong Cakes when we played. Turned out one just wanted the food. Lol. When I was around 21, I gave all of the Barbies and clothes to my younger cousins. But I still have the glass tea set that is now 58 years old.

Yes. I was about six or seven when I got my first Barbie for Christmas. Problem was, it was a group effort. The first Grandma’s we went to I go a cigar box full of hand stitched Barbie clothes. They were awesome, but no doll. The next Grandma’s we went to, I got a carry case filled with accessories – shoes, purses, hanger, etc. – and a couple of store bought outfits. The next Grandma’s (Yes, I had an extra set of grandparents.) I got another box of lovely knitted clothes. I am getting rather frustrated by now. I young. I don’t have a doll, but now I have all this stuff for a doll. The very last gift I got that year, was finally the Barbie doll. This was a good Christmas after all. Needless to say, when I went back to school, not only did have my own Barbie Doll like my peers, but she was the best dressed doll in school. That year it wasn’t so bad having so many Grandmas.

Nope, never had a Barbie or any other dolls. I stayed outside hunting, fishing and taking care of live stock. I had guns and knives.

I had barbies and homemade clothes. We didn’t have a dream house, so I made one out of boxes. I used a hospital was basin as a swimming pool. Lots of fun times playing on the front porch

I had my own Barbies, but my cousin gave me her hand-me-down Barbies. I also had Madge (she had changeable wigs), Skipper and Ken. I took my brother’s GI Joe and used him as Barbie’s boyfriend. Lol!

I had a Barbie with a black ponytail and black and white striped bathing suit. A year or so later I also got a Ken with the fuzzy hair that rubbed off. 😊 I think I was probably around 5 or 6 years old, over 60 years ago. LOL

Unfortunately, I always got the collectible Holiday Barbies so I wasn’t sure if they were for me or for my mom. I couldn’t play with them like my other dolls. I had to keep them in the box because “they could be worth something someday” (smile). But at least they were beautifully dressed in all their finery and were fun to look at.
