Sharing Simple Delights
Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

Be sure to post today for a second chance to win yesterday’s prize! I’ll announce the winner tomorrow!

I was supposed to have a guest blogger here today, but she forgot to mail me stuff. So here I am—wondering what I should do with today’s posting. I could talk about the pool, talk about my dogs, my new dragons, slap another excerpt up here, but I do like to change things up a bit so that you (AND I) don’t get terribly bored.

While I was in Canada, Sasha and I hit a bookstore. I know, so clichΓ©, right? Anyway, we were looking at those mini-books in the racks at the front. You know the ones that are usually dedicated to Mom, to Irish limericks, to living the bountiful life.

Well, I found a couple of little books that I think I can have fun with here if I use them as topics to start a conversation. The one I’m looking at this morning is The Woman’s Book of Simple Delights. It has suggestions like:

* Wear your absolute greatest pair of shoes even if they are out of season
* Dress up and try on expensive jewelry at Tiffany’s

I thought we might have some fun sharing some of our own Simple Delights. So here go a couple of my special things I like to do:

* I don’t dress up, but I go to my local jewelers. They know me by name now. I like to try on everything in the store, and usually have at least one nice item on lay-away.
* I go for a morning swim when the air is cooler than the temperature of the pool. Very refreshing and sensual. The perfect way to start my day.

So how about you? What are your simple pleasures. Hmmm…if we came up with enough, we could write our own little miniature book of Simple Delights!

My morning coffee on my front porch. I get up at 5 or 6 each morning because of my hectic schedule and every morning I take a half an hour and just curl up on the porch and drink a cup of coffee. I even do it in the winter.

I keep 4-5 different sized insulated mugs in the freezer year round so that when I want something cold, I don’t have to put ice in it. I truly dislike ice cubes in anything but water.

Heather! Mmmm…morning coffee of the porch. Sounds nice. I should take mine out back to the swing and watch the critters come up to the pond.

Bookdragon! I likey! Remember the A&W frosted mugs you used to get? I need to find something like that.

Mysimple delight is to get up before everyone else and sit in the quiet with a good book and the dog on my lap πŸ˜€

Doesn’t happen often but when it does I find it refreshes me for the day ahead (especially as once everyone else is up there is rarely a moment of silence).

One of my simple pleasures is sitting in the house watching the deer browsing in my yard. Happens every couple of days. One of the few benefits of having a broken down lawn mower.

An uninterrupted cup of tea. Well, a mug of tea. A good 16 oz, really strong, with milk and sweetener. Hot, peaceful, at the computer chatting or playing an online game.

    Did I say uninterrupted?

    I think I said uninterrupted.

Can you guess I was just interrupted? 😯 😈

My simple pleasure is to get up in the morning with a cup of tea and a book in my hand on my back porch. Also to watch my dog play in the backyard.

Reading in bed on a Saturday morning, getting up and having a slow breakfast and a good cop of coffee. That is an ideal day for me πŸ™‚

I also like to look through my jewlery box and discover stuff that I have not worn for a while and take them out for a breath of fresh air!

I enjoy going to furniture stores and testing out the couches, chairs, and beds and picturing them in my home. I can’t afford anything, but I enjoy crashing on all the couches.

I also try on many different scents whenever I go to Bath & Body Works. I always end up knocking people over with all the layers of scents, but I enjoy trying all the new scents on.

My simple delight is sitting with my coffee and listening to the light steady rain. It is so soothing. πŸ˜‰

My simple delight is sleeping in. With kids I have to get up early, send them to school and go to work.

So when I can sleep in, or stay in bed with a good book (and hopefully a mug of coffee) that’s heaven πŸ™‚

Or in winter, skiing while the sun is high and the snow cold.

My simple delight is walking in the neighborhood with my brother. Sometimes we catch each other up on our lives. Other times we don’t say much. We just enjoy being together on the walk.

Late at night when the house is quiet I listen to music and read.

Early in the morning and at dusk watching the hummingbirds on the patio as they enjoy the Salvia plants.

As a side note, when I was a teen my dad managed a jewelry store and I worked seasonally for him, for years. I think I tried on every piece of jewelry in the store. It was so much fun!! πŸ˜€

For me it’s when everyone goes to bed at night and I can relax in quiet and read, I also enjoy the quiet time in morning before everyone awakes and i get my day started early and peaceful!

I also love curly up on the couch and watching a good movie with my husband:)

My simple delight is going to the bookstore and browsing for a couple of hours. Sometimes I may not find a new book but I just love looking and talking with other readers.

Simple pleasures? A piece of good chocolate, clean sheets, a walk just because (rather than rushing off somewhere at a breakneck pace) πŸ™‚
