Saturday Puzzle-Contest!

UPDATE: The winner is…Carol G!

I’m late posting today because a friend messaged my dd to tell us there was a garage sale we could not miss this morning! The woman was selling vintage Pyrex dishes, which my daughter collects. My SIL was game to drive us there and patiently waited while we picked through her junk to find hidden treasures! We came away with so many pieces of Pyrex my daughter doesn’t have room to display them! It’s a great problem for an addict to have. I worked my way down one end of the table, snagging items I knew she’d want, and when we met in the middle we were both thrilled at all our finds.

Then I went through the rest of the tables looking for strange and wonderful treasures, which are what I collect—not that most of my treasures are worth anything, but I’m always looking for the thing that makes me happy.

The item I came away with cost an entire dollar! You have to solve the puzzle to see the tarnished brass (tarnish just means it has been around a while, like me). We looked on eBay to see what similar things go for. The ones we found were promotional type items produced in the 50s. Mine was sold at Knott’s Berry Farm—Ghost Town, California—I have no idea when. The top part flips to change numbers. The screws on the sides change other settings. Now, you have to see what the little treasure is, right? It’s found its forever-home on my desk. 🙂

Share one garage sale/junk shop find that makes you smile for a chance to win a $5 Amazon gift card!

I love garage sales and second hand shops. Over the years I have bought a few pieces of designer clothing for next to nothing.

I found an OLD pyrex glass dish at a yardsale. I love it because it’s so simple and elegant and OLD. It reminds me of my grandmother.

OMG. I remember having one of those calendar things. It was silver. When you flipped/rotated it the date changed.

Books and a beautiful ballerina music box that played a unique childhood lullaby that has always been hard to find. It always makes my sister cry when she hears it.

One of my favorite finds was at a flea market. I used to collect beavers and I found one that was really unusual. It was two beavers together in such a way that it was shaped very similar to a ball. You really have to see it to understand how unique it is. I’ve had to let go of most of my collection due to downsizing but the one was a keeper

What a treasure you found! I haven’t seen one of these in forever. I am trying to remember which grandparent had one on their desk. I loved it. A garage sale find that makes me smile? As I may have mentioned, I collect pansies. So the pansy covered pillow on my couch always makes me smile. Found it at an “antique mall” in the Seattle area. Love it!

Great finds. It is great to see garage sales back. I missed them. I found a beautiful homemade full size quilt that I still use.

I found a pair of large Murano glass birds (which are NOT inexpensive at retail) and got the pair for $50. An auctioneer friend was absolutely flabbergasted when he found out. Unfortunately, one of them was broken (it really was accidental, but I was NOT happy) by a friend of one of my grandchildren. We never told her mother, since she would have wanted to replace it, and we knew that would have been financially extremely difficult for her.

I haven’t seen a calender like that in years. ‘
We always looked for jigsaw puzzles that we could alll put together. My dad would do them for hours.
