Another question for you…
Thursday, March 4th, 2010

I leave for Shreveport and the NOLA conference tomorrow, so today, I have a ton of things to do—laundry, pack, clean the car, etc. I will also try to get some more pages done today. And I will pre-post a couple of blogs. Have to pick a worthy topic. Any suggestions?

For today, I’ll let you do the work. I have a question and I’m interested in your answers!

When you look back on the life you have lived to this point,
what in particular amazes you the most?

The thing that amazes me the most is that I’m still alive.

Anything past 20 was gravy because I was a wild child with a penchant for bad boys, illegal substances and fast cars.

When I hit 30, I couldn’t believe I’d done it without ending up in jail or sold in a slave auction (long story, there).

40 was a miracle, because I still hadn’t learned to look before I leaped and even lobbied hard to go to a war I didn’t have to see.

Now, I’m a venerable old 51 and am still having little unexpected adventures (burning hair, snakes in the pool)—and I’m hoping the rest of however many years I have left are just as interesting.

What amazes you?

That I survived for 39 years! I too was a wild child though it was mostly by association. I had a penchant for hooking up with the wrong crowd and going along against my better judgement. Date two ex-cons and traveled across state lines with an illegal substance that could have put me away for a very long time! Yeah, wild days:(
Since I married a wild child we’ve grown staid. Still hang out playin’ music til the wee hours and occasionally club hop but my judgement has improved dramatically! Now I put all my wild into my characters, safer that way:)

I have two things that amaze me just off the top of my head.

One that I didn’t give up on my marriage when it got hellishly rocky. That was 6 years in and we just hit 15 last month. Totally worth the effort I think.

The second thing is more fun. Though I had gone to Airborne school I was booted after the 1st week because I went numb from the waist up while running. BUT I did finally jump out of an airplane with a cute Aussie strapped to my back. That has to be way more fun then jumping by myself.

Rachel! You sound like my sister. She always says she wouldn’t have gotten into half the mischief she had if I hadn’t been leading her down that path!

Brandy! Yikes! I tried out for jump school out of ROTC, but the department didn’t want to “waste” a slot on a woman. 👿

I two am amazed that I’m still alive at the ripe age of 50+ and that along with everyone else we are all surviving the hellish economy that we are living in, but hopefully things can ony get better…
